About Tube Drinking Glass
The design of the Tube glassware series is inspired by borosilicate glass, which is known for its material properties. The collection features a double wall structure, recalling a floating test tube inside a transparent external support. The flat-bottomed tumbler comes in three stackable sizes, suitable for hot or cold drinks. The material allows for various shapes and colours, and the glasses are ergonomic and dishwasher safe. The packaging is made from recycled cardboard, emphasizing sustainability.
Within the evolving landscape of contemporary tableware design, Florian Seidl's Tube Drinking Glass collection represents a thoughtful meditation on the relationship between form, function, and chromatic expression through the medium of double-wall borosilicate glass construction. The series demonstrates masterful command of glass as both structural material and vehicle for color, with each vessel featuring an inner cylindrical chamber of saturated hue suspended within a clear outer shell, creating the compelling visual effect of floating pigment contained within crystalline architecture. The designer's approach suggests deep engagement with the phenomenology of transparency, exploring how colored glass transforms when viewed through additional layers of clear material, producing subtle optical interactions that reward sustained contemplation. The chromatic selection, spanning cool lavender through aquatic cerulean to warm amber, establishes a considered palette that references both natural phenomena and the rich traditions of decorative glass arts while maintaining contemporary restraint. Technical accomplishment manifests in the seamless junction between colored inner vessels and clear outer forms, the precise calibration of wall thickness for optimal thermal insulation, and the integration of understated capacity markings that serve practical function without compromising visual elegance. The squared exterior profile of the smallest vessel introduces geometric complexity that speaks to broader conversations within contemporary design regarding the interplay between organic and rectilinear forms. Thematically, the collection appears to celebrate the transformative qualities of light passing through colored glass, the simple pleasure of holding a well-crafted object, and the elevation of quotidian ritual through thoughtful design intervention. Viewers might consider how the experience of drinking from such vessels differs from conventional glassware, and what meanings we attach to objects that bring beauty to everyday moments.

- Unique Properties
- The Tube drinking glass collection is technically a set of tumblers. The classic drinking glass with a flat-bottomed design, perfect for water, juice, cocktails, or a beer. Basically, any drink of your choice. Hot or cold. Tube has a modular design and comes in three different sizes. All of them are stackable, also amongst each other. The glasses are ergonomic and naturally dishwasher safe. The material and production process allow for different colour combinations and interesting presentation of the contents. Enjoy your drink!

- Production Technology
- The Tube glassware series is made from borosilicate glass. The material is known for its strength, durability and temperature resistance. The glass can be moulded and crafted in a variety of very different shapes and thicknesses. It is an infinitely recyclable material that can be re-melted again and again minimizing waste and environmental impact. The packaging is made from recycled cardboard.
- Design Challenge
- The main challenge was the necessity to create a series of modular and stackable drinking glasses in different sizes that also explore the formal possibilities of the material and make a visual statement.
- Project Duration
- The project was designed in Italy during the summer of 2024 as a quick side study for Officina Endorfino. An exploration and exercise in glassware design.
- Operation Flow
- Take a glass. Fill it up. Bring it to your mouth. Drink. Enjoy!
- Research
- The design process was based on conceptual and formal research aimed at understanding material properties and opportunities of the category.
Product development and refinement through traditional sketching and 3D modelling. - Inspiration
- This design is inspired by the material itself: borosilicate glass. Going back to its origins - imagine the world of chemistry, labs & test tubes. All the right tools for a modern approach to mixology - perfectly crafted drinks & cocktails in a unique glass. The design proposes a double wall structure. This creates a floating test tube on the inside with transparent external support. Mind the gap!
