About Joy Barware Series
Joy is a series of drinking glasses designed for a wide range of beverages. The series includes stemmed and stemless forms, from a shot glass of 74 mm in height to a champagne glass of 222 mm in height. Joy is made of soda glass with the automatic press method, and the single-piece press mold keeps production efficient. The form is inspired by the dried paradise palm fruit and combines natural and geometric lines. Linear engravings create a texture that is comfortable to hold. The open mouth shape also suits hot beverages.
Within the tradition of fine glassware design that spans centuries of European craftsmanship, Sisecam's Joy Barware Series emerges as a contemporary meditation on the enduring appeal of vertical channeling as both decorative motif and functional enhancement. The collection appears to draw upon design vocabularies established during the Art Deco period, when geometric precision and machine-age aesthetics transformed domestic objects into expressions of modern elegance, while simultaneously honoring older traditions of fluted glassware that amplify tactile grip and create mesmerizing light effects. The series demonstrates considerable design intelligence in its application of a unifying visual language—the parallel vertical ribbing—across diverse vessel typologies, from the broad ceremonial bowl of the coupe glass to the attenuated stem of the wine goblet, suggesting that functional specificity need not compromise aesthetic coherence. Technical accomplishment manifests in the consistent clarity of the glass, the precision of the molded channels, and the graceful transitions between textured and smooth zones that allow each piece to function both as drinking vessel and decorative object. The compositional presentation of the full collection emphasizes completeness and possibility: here assembled is everything needed to serve an elegant gathering, from morning coffee through afternoon refreshment to evening cocktails and after-dinner spirits. Thematically, the series celebrates the ritualized pleasures of beverage consumption across cultures—the toast, the shared meal, the quiet moment of solitary contemplation—elevating these quotidian acts through objects that reward both use and observation. The choice of title, Joy, suggests the designer's intention that these vessels participate in and amplify moments of celebration, connection, and sensory pleasure. How might the vertical channels, beyond their visual appeal, transform the experience of holding a cool glass on a warm evening, the condensation collecting in tiny rivulets along the grooves?

- Production Technology
- It is soda glass produced in machines using the Auto press method.
- Design Challenge
- A glass shape was developed based on the dried paradise palm fruit, that meets the product expectation of the single-piece press method in terms of angle and form. The production underwent three form changes. The most challenging part of the process was achieving the fluidity of the form and the angles for the molds to come out smoothly. Since efficiency in production is a crucial point for the factory, form should have satisfied both the designer's vision and the factory's requirements.
- Project Duration
- The project, which started in February 2023, was completed in December 2023 and exhibited at the Frankfurt Ambiente 2024 fair.
- Operation Flow
- Its form and engravings provide a texture that is comfortable to hold, not bothering the hand, and even gives a sensation of pleasure and happiness, just like its name suggests. Its open mouth structure also provides extra comfort for hot beverages.
- Research
- The aim of the project was to create a sparkling and glamorous product while keeping costs low. A series with a classic style close to traditional aesthetics, yet incorporating cut engravings in line with current trends, was targeted. The product's flexible form was created by researching various natural elements and developed based on the dried paradise palm fruit form during the research. Through the process, an agreement was reached to achieve the most efficient and aesthetically ideal form.
