About Star Drinking Glass

The Star glassware series is designed with a flowing gesture that combines a rounded base with an external ring for added stability. The collection is based on a stackable and modular design concept. The series is made from borosilicate glass and includes three different sizes. They are dishwasher safe and highly transparent and available in different colours. The glass is recyclable, and the packaging is made from recycled cardboard.

Florian Seidl's Star Drinking Glass collection emerges from the rich tradition of studio glass artistry while embracing contemporary minimalist sensibilities that prioritize material honesty and chromatic sophistication. The trio of vessels demonstrates remarkable command over the glass medium, each piece exhibiting the graduated color saturation technique wherein metallic oxide colorants concentrate toward the weighted base while maintaining crystal clarity at the drinking rim, a technical achievement that balances aesthetic expression with practical functionality. The designer appears to engage thoughtfully with Scandinavian glass heritage, recalling the luminous color experiments of mid-century masters while establishing a distinctly contemporary vocabulary through the collection's clean cylindrical profiles and restrained formal language. Compositionally, the arrangement reveals careful consideration of visual dialogue, the varied heights creating rhythmic progression while the rotational orientations, one vessel recumbent, another upright, the third tilted forward, establish dynamic interrelationship that transforms utilitarian objects into sculptural ensemble. The chromatic strategy demonstrates sophisticated understanding of color theory, positioning warm amber and chartreuse tones in harmonious conversation while introducing cool lavender-amethyst as complementary counterpoint, the white presentation ground amplifying perceived saturation through optical contrast effects. Each glass functions simultaneously as functional vessel and light-transmitting sculpture, the transparent walls capturing and refracting illumination to produce subtle internal luminosity that shifts with viewing angle and ambient conditions. The substantial wall thickness and weighted bases suggest thoughtful attention to tactile experience, promising satisfying heft in the hand while ensuring stability during use. This collection invites consideration of how everyday domestic objects might elevate quotidian rituals through material beauty and chromatic joy, transforming the simple act of drinking into aesthetic experience. What pleasures might emerge from selecting among these jewel-toned vessels according to mood, beverage, or the quality of afternoon light?

Production Technology
The Star glassware series is made from borosilicate glass. The material is known for its strength, durability and temperature resistance. The glass can be moulded and crafted in a variety of very different shapes and thicknesses. It is an infinitely recyclable material that can be re-melted again and again minimizing waste and environmental impact. The packaging is made from recycled cardboard.
Design Challenge
The main challenge was the necessity to create a series of modular and stackable drinking glasses in different sizes that also explore the formal possibilities of the material and make a visual statement.
Project Duration
The project was designed in Italy during the summer of 2024 as a quick side study for Officina Endorfino. A free exploration and exercise in glassware design.
Operation Flow
Take a glass. Fill it up. Bring it to your mouth. Drink. Enjoy!
Research
The design process was based on conceptual and formal research aimed at understanding material properties and opportunities of the category.
Product development and refinement through traditional sketching and 3D modelling.
Inspiration
The inner and outer volume follow the exact same flowing, rounded gesture. This shape is also playing on the original idea of the tumbler. A drinking glass for many different drinks, commonly with a flat base. But initially with a pointed or rounded base. So, this proposal combines the rounded base with a pointed external ring for added stability. Just stellar!
