About Pierre De Ronsard Baking Shop

Pierre De Ronsard is a bakery interior covering 110 square meters. The design displays the baking process and desserts within one open retail space. The guiding concept is an ambiguous boundary between the shop and the inner street of the shopping mall. A perforated curved wall with ivory paint stands near the main entrance, and the spacing of the holes changes gradually. Laminated metal sheets of various heights serve as display units and as an interactive installation. Solid blocks replace fixed interfaces, so inside and outside connect.

Within the lineage of contemporary retail design that draws upon gallery and museum spatial conventions, this interior environment demonstrates a sophisticated synthesis of material authenticity and compositional restraint. The designer appears to have engaged deeply with the phenomenology of display, understanding that objects intended for contemplation and selection require sufficient spatial generosity to be properly perceived and appreciated. The suspended shelving system, with its organic elliptical profiles rendered in warm natural wood, introduces biomorphic softness into the orthogonal architectural framework, creating a dialogue between the crafted and the constructed that speaks to the artisanal nature of the baking enterprise housed within. The material palette has been edited with curatorial precision: the brass vertical elements function simultaneously as structural necessity and decorative punctuation, their warm metallic tone mediating between the cool neutrality of the architectural envelope and the honey warmth of the wooden platforms. The perforated wall surface invites consideration of pattern and repetition, the small circular apertures creating a field of visual texture that animates the white surface without disrupting its essential planarity. Technical accomplishment is evident in the seamless integration of lighting within the ceiling plane, the fixtures receding into the dark surface to emphasize the quality of illumination rather than the apparatus of its production. The inclusion of a figure in motion introduces temporal dimension and human measure, reminding viewers that this space exists not merely as formal composition but as the setting for daily rituals of selection and transaction. One might contemplate how the elevation of baked goods upon floating platforms transforms quotidian commerce into aesthetic experience, suggesting that the careful preparation of food merits equally considered environments for its presentation and acquisition.

Unique Properties
As a retail shop mainly for displaying the baking process and desserts, this project is designed to create a spatial feature with the concept, and establish the special atmosphere, so as to extend the possibility of the shop design. The relationship of mutual penetration endows the space with openness to some extent, and connects the internal and external space with the physical dissolution and fusion.
Dimensions & Packaging
The project covers a total of 110 square meters.

Production Technology
The laminated metal sheets with various heights play roles of displaying and interactive installation with customers.
Design Challenge
One side of the site faces the inner street of the shopping mall, and therefore starting from the thought of the boundary, a block is used to replace the interface, to obtain an ambiguous boundary of space by the minimalist design.
Project Duration
The project started in July 2018 in Wuxi and finished in November 2010 in Wuxi.
Operation Flow
Centered on the concept of ambiguous boundary, the perforated curved wall with ivory paint near the main entrance responds with the gradually varied spacing of holes.
Research
As Martin Heidegger said, the boundary is not the stop of something, but the appearance of something new. As the case is located in an inner street facing shopping malls, designers take the boundary thinking as the starting point, replace the interface with body blocks, and blur the boundary of space through subtraction design.
Inspiration
Pierre de ronsard represents the well-known Eden Rosegem, and also the name of a modern French poet, who was widely spread for his description of human beings with a metaphor of flowers. It is selected for the name of a shop by the owner, as an extension of romantic meaning.
