About La Moitie Multi Commercial Space
The name of the project La Moitie originates from the French translation of half , and the design aptly reflects this by the balance that has been struck between opposing elements: square and circle, light and dark. Given the limited space, the team sought to establish both a connection and a division between the two separate retail areas through the application of two opposing colors. While the boundary between the pink and black spaces is clear yet also blurred at different perspectives. A spiral staircase, half pink and half black, is positioned in the center of the store and provides.
One Fine Day's La Moitie Multi Commercial Space emerges as a compelling meditation on architectural duality, presenting what might be understood as a spatial dialogue between historicist ornamentation and contemporary material minimalism within a unified commercial environment. The design practice appears to engage with longstanding traditions of theatrical retail environments while simultaneously embracing the material honesty championed by mid-century and contemporary architectural movements. The warm-toned left zone, with its Baroque-inflected columns, crystal lighting fixtures, and period furniture arrangements, suggests references to aristocratic European interiors, perhaps evoking the salons and reception halls that historically served as spaces of both commerce and social display. The deliberate deployment of dusty rose plaster surfaces, ornamental scrollwork, and reflective gilded elements creates an atmosphere of cultivated refinement and temporal nostalgia. In sophisticated counterpoint, the grey stone domain presents raw geological presence, its horizontally stacked slabs suggesting both natural cliff formations and the honest material expression advocated by brutalist architectural philosophy. The spherical sculptural element positioned at the threshold between these realms functions as a phenomenological anchor, its pure geometric form mediating between the complexity of historicist ornament and the reductive clarity of mineral surfaces. This compositional strategy suggests an understanding of commercial space as experiential narrative, where movement through contrasting environments generates emotional and perceptual richness. The design invites contemplation of how contemporary retail environments might honor historical precedents while embracing material authenticity, creating spaces that engage visitors through surprising juxtaposition rather than stylistic uniformity. Viewers might consider how such deliberate contrast amplifies appreciation for both ornamental tradition and natural material presence.

- Design Challenge
- In the beginning of the concept, the most difficult challenge was the collision relationship between black and pink. We hope that this space is one, and we also hope that this integrated space can be clearly divided into two characteristics spaces. After many analyses, we finally adopted a spiral staircase structure to connect pink and black. To this end, we even removed the original floor structure and raised the entire first floor space.
- Project Duration
- The project started in November 2018 in Guangzhou and finished in March 2019 in Guangzhou,
and was launched in Panyu District Guangzhou in October 2019. - Operation Flow
- In the existing business system, brands with unique identification are more likely to succeed. Our aim is to provide better advantages for the brand beyond the basic-functions-needs .Thus in La Moitie, you can discover a unique design space and even more sense the storyline of the brand by this couple.
- Research
- In the initial stage of the project research, the concept and style of pink space were derived from Rococo art, such as the Bavarian Church, Versailles, etc. We found that to achieve the fine craftsmanship of the Rococo period, it required expensive materials and plenty of time, it was overflows the client's budget needs. So we tried 3d printing technology and fulfilled our detailed requirements within a week. Based on this success, we will use more 3D printing technology for other projects.
- Inspiration
- La Moitie, the project name comes from the French word meaning of half, half is a homophonic mate in Chinese, meaning partner.Through the analysis and positioning of this brand,we use Square and Circle,Mild Pink and Black as the basic elements to express the inner connection between half and mate.
