About Miro Distributed 2020 Virtual Event Experience Design

Miro Distributed 2020 is a virtual conference experience created for an annual online event with more than 30,000 registrants. The design includes 55 interactive boards that help guests learn, network and attend workshops. The visual theme is based on space. Visitors land on a main board that looks like a galaxy, then zoom and navigate to reach 18 further boards, such as the agenda, the code of conduct and the feedback wall. The aim is to offer an immersive online experience at a lower cost than on-site events.

Design Challenge
The main obstacle of this project was the time difference between Riyadh and California which is 11 hours, and made the feedback loop more difficult
Project Duration
The project started on October 5th 2020 and was delivered on October 12.2020 by the team in Riyadh, for the Miro team in California.
Operation Flow
Users and guests land on a main board called Miro Mission Control, which looks like a galaxy, and they zoom and navigate around to see the introduction and guidelines, then they can explore any of the 18 different boards by clicking on the linked title, such as: Agenda board, Code of Conduct, Feedback Wall, Studio etc
Research
HUED team conducted desktop research to understand the nature of the Space Theme, and what elements can be used for the illustrations as well as what terminology and metaphors can be applied. The team used a Miro board to collect all findings, create a mood board and build a mind map of the ideas that can be applied for our design.
Inspiration
As the result of the global pandemic, organizations are struggling to get a good level of engagement from staff and public in their events in the virtual world, so the purpose was to deliver originality and an unforgettable immersive virtual experience that will fulfill the scope of the event, while having a low cost comparing to on-ground events. Given the opportunity, HUED decided to wow the attendees with an out of this world space experience with tailored activities that people love.
