About Maison Of Silence Residential House
Maison of Silence is a residential interior design in Taichung City, Taiwan, planned for a family of four and six cats. The home covers 106 square meters and includes three bedrooms, a dedicated cat room and a 12 meter balcony. A curved sculpted screen at the entrance holds an art display and a buffet and defines the living and dining zones. Partitions were removed and the hallway was moved beside the floor-to-ceiling windows to bring in sunlight and views. Natural wood, terrazzo, iron and bronze mirrors appear in gray, white and earthy tones.
Timeless Space Design's Maison Of Silence Residential House exemplifies a contemporary approach to domestic sanctuary that draws upon the meditative spatial traditions of contemplative architecture while integrating the warmth and human-centered proportions associated with mid-twentieth century residential modernism. The design appears to engage thoughtfully with the phenomenological experience of dwelling, demonstrating particular sensitivity to the sequential revelation of space through carefully calibrated threshold moments and material transitions. The entry vestibule, elevated on its terrazzo platform and distinguished by dramatic charcoal cabinetry against a glowing terracotta alcove, establishes a decompression chamber between exterior and interior realms, inviting inhabitants to pause and shed the concerns of the outside world before proceeding into the home's embrace. The continuous deployment of warm-toned wood across horizontal planes creates what might be understood as a material narrative of shelter and enclosure, the grain patterns drawing the eye forward along implied vectors of movement while simultaneously establishing a sense of protective encapsulation. The designers demonstrate particular accomplishment in their orchestration of chromatic temperature, balancing the dominant warm palette against strategic cool accents in the mineral-finished cabinetry and pale plaster surfaces, creating visual rest points within the amber glow. - This residence embraces northwest sunlight with three-sided lighting, a large balcony, and two terraces. The layout was carefully adjusted, removing partitions and minimizing corridor space. The hallway by the windows allows ample sunlight while reducing external noise, enhancing the cats' security. Each main bedroom has access to the terraces, ensuring everyone enjoys the greenery and views. Feng Shui guided the layout, making every design line functional. The color palette features grays, whites, and earthy tones, creating a unified feel. The owner’s cherished round table at the center invites family gatherings and shared moments.
- Design Challenge
- Feng Shui and six cats create a harmonious space, blending security and dynamic design. Modern touches enable an engaging flow, bringing emotions and daily life into balance. A warm reddish-brown accent highlights the Feng Shui wealth area, subtly incorporating decor and ancestral items without overwhelming the space. This tone, alongside wood textures and neutral gray and white walls, melds practicality with character. An eco-friendly, cloud-like main light adds softness and dimension, enhancing the home’s layers and inviting a tranquil, cohesive atmosphere.

- The project began in August 2022 and was completed in January 2023 in Taichung City, Taiwan.
- Operation Flow
- The design incorporates flexible usage areas, transforming the screen into a tangible form while optimizing the layout of the cat room, hallway, and living room wall to enhance sunlight in common areas. The living and dining rooms flow seamlessly with the kitchen, unobstructed by sliding doors that isolate cooking fumes in a Chinese-style kitchen. These doors tuck into the walls for an open sightline, unveiling views of the home. Thoughtfully placed furniture ensures all lines of sight converge, enhancing the warmth and unity of the space.
- Research
- The floor plan addresses the homeowner's Feng Shui needs, emphasizing visual and directional elements upon entering. The pathway guides from southwest to northeast, leading to the dining table, while buffering societal influences to provide a sense of security at home. The original central hallway has been relocated beside the floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize greenery and natural light, blurring indoor-outdoor boundaries. This design creates an illusion of expanded space by focusing on the balcony view, enhancing the overall openness of the interior.
- Inspiration
- Bathed in the warmth of the afternoon sun, gentle natural light pours in, where six cats lie lazily in sunlit patches, as if attempting to freeze time within this serene moment. The instant of returning home sheds the clamor, embracing peace.
