About Leaves Club House

Leaves is a club house for a residential community, located halfway up a mountain in Changsha, China. The interior covers 2000 square meters on two floors. The first floor holds a reception lobby, a swimming pool and a gymnasium, and the second floor is a leisure area with a book bar. A lighting installation of custom made LED leaves is held by white painted aluminum steel cables that also act as conductors. Light control technology shifts the glow of each leaf to imitate autumn wind. The rolling ceiling of the former building is retained to recall a wavy mountain.

Leaves Club House by Kris Lin exemplifies a distinguished approach to contemporary hospitality design that synthesizes biophilic principles with material refinement to create environments of exceptional atmospheric resonance. The work participates in broader conversations within twenty-first century interior architecture concerning the integration of natural forms within constructed space, demonstrating how organic geometries may be abstracted and elevated through careful material selection and precise compositional orchestration. The suspended installation of leaf-shaped elements serves as the conceptual and visual anchor of the space, transforming what might otherwise function as conventional circulation into a moment of contemplative pause and vertical aspiration. Lin's material palette evidences sophisticated understanding of perceptual temperature and tactile suggestion, positioning warm metallic surfaces in productive dialogue with cool geological stone, while the mediating white of the suspended forms provides chromatic relief and luminous focal points. The reflective floor plane extends the spatial experience through mirroring, a technique with deep art historical precedents from Baroque palace design through contemporary installation practice, here employed to suggest infinite depth and to double the organic installation's visual presence. The incorporation of leaf motifs, both dimensional and linear, connects this hospitality environment to broader cultural traditions wherein botanical imagery signifies growth, renewal, and the cyclical harmonies of nature. Technical accomplishment appears throughout in the precision of joinery, the consistency of finish, and the seamless integration of concealed lighting systems that provide even, flattering illumination without visible sources. The composition invites consideration of how threshold experiences in hospitality contexts may establish emotional registers for subsequent spatial encounters, and how the first impression of arrival shapes the totality of visitor experience. What qualities of welcome and wonder does this entrance sequence establish, and how might the interplay of natural reference and material luxury inform one's sense of the spaces that follow?
