About Gambo Coffee Sealed Canister
Gambo is a sealed canister designed for the storage of coffee beans. The canister has a dual layer structure and a double sealed design with a buckle and a silicone ring, which limit heat transfer and keep oxygen out. A one way air vent releases the carbon dioxide produced during roasting. A humidity meter shows the storage humidity in real time, so the canister can be moved when needed. A date recording disc on the top and a metal bulletin board allow storage information to be noted. The outer shell is ABS and the inner liner is stainless steel.
The Gambo Coffee Sealed Canister by this studio represents a thoughtfully considered contribution to contemporary storage vessel design, positioning itself within the rich typological tradition of domestic containers while demonstrating clear awareness of evolving user expectations around functional transparency, material quality, and multi-sensory design satisfaction. The composition presents two colorway variants of this cylindrical storage system, each exemplifying how chromatic inversion can dramatically alter the psychological presence and perceived character of identical formal vocabularies, with the pristine white iteration projecting clinical precision, hygienic reassurance, and spatial lightness suitable for environments prioritizing brightness and visual expansion, while the deep charcoal variant conveys material density, sophisticated restraint, and subtle luxury appropriate for contexts valuing visual weight and tonal depth. The technical execution demonstrates considerable accomplishment in several domains simultaneously, beginning with the dual-dial mechanism integrated into the vessel's crown, where concentric circular elements featuring numerical graduations and radial calibration marks suggest a rotational adjustment system likely serving freshness tracking, date notation, or content identification functions, this mechanical complexity achieved while maintaining surface continuity and ergonomic accessibility, the dials protruding minimally from the domed summit to invite fingertip engagement without disrupting the overall form's sculptural coherence. The transparent rectangular window positioned on each canister's lower body represents another successful integration of functional requirement with formal elegance, its chamfered frame creating a deliberate visual event that relieves the cylindrical monotony while serving the practical purpose of content verification without seal compromise, allowing users to assess remaining quantity and ingredient condition without exposure to air, light, or moisture that would accelerate degradation. The handle systems exhibit particular sensitivity to ergonomic and material considerations, with the white canister's curved tubular grip contrasted by an angular black metal mounting bracket that provides both visual punctuation and structural integrity, while the charcoal variant's substantial cylindrical dial-handle suggests dual functionality as both carrying aid and rotational control element, this multifunctionality exemplifying the sophisticated problem-solving that characterizes mature product design thinking. The compositional presentation itself merits attention, as the floating diagonal arrangement creates dynamic spatial relationships while allowing each colorway to assert its distinct material personality, the soft diffused lighting modeling forms with subtle gradation that reveals surface quality and dimensional depth without harsh shadows or specular distractions, this studio photography approach serving both documentation and aspiration, showing the vessels as they are while suggesting the elevated domestic contexts they might inhabit. The design language throughout speaks to contemporary international minimalism that draws selectively from Scandinavian functional clarity, Japanese spatial sensitivity, and Germanic precision engineering traditions, synthesizing these influences into a coherent formal vocabulary that feels simultaneously familiar and fresh, referencing container archetypes while advancing the typology through careful detail resolution and interaction design. The material finish quality apparent in both variants suggests manufacturing precision and attention to tactile experience, the matte surfaces promising pleasing hand-feel while practical advantages regarding fingerprint resistance and visual softness, and the overall impression conveys the designer's understanding that storage vessels occupy a peculiar position in the hierarchy of domestic objects, being neither purely utilitarian tools to be hidden away nor decorative objects demanding attention, but rather functioning as what might be termed ambient infrastructure, objects that support daily rituals while contributing to environmental atmosphere through their material presence and aesthetic character. One might observe how such designs participate in broader cultural conversations around mindful consumption, ingredient care, and the ritualization of everyday practices, where the act of storing coffee, tea, or other valued consumables becomes an opportunity for aesthetic engagement and sensory satisfaction, inviting users to consider whether the protection and presentation of daily materials might deserve the same design consideration traditionally reserved for their preparation and consumption, and whether domestic landscapes might be enriched through the accumulation of well-designed functional objects that serve practical needs while offering quiet visual pleasure and tactile reward across countless unremarkable interactions that collectively constitute domestic life.
Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- This coffee bean storage canister is crafted to provide an optimal storage environment for coffee beans, promoting bean longevity and enhancing the overall coffee drinking experience for users. Its innovative features, such as the humidity monitoring meter, dual layer structure, and one way air vent, not only facilitate ideal storage conditions for coffee beans but also effectively mitigate environmental factors that may compromise the quality of the beans within the canister.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- product dimensions, 115 mm x 95 mm x 150 mm
- Tags
- coffee bean storage canister, humidity monitoring meter, dual layer structure, one way air vent, multiple sealing design
- Production Technology
- The coffee bean storage canister features a unique dual layer structure design to minimise heat transfer and establish a consistent temperature environment for its contents. Its outer shell, constructed from durable ABS, effectively withstands external impacts, protecting the canister from damage. The inner liner is high quality SUS304 stainless steel, ensuring exceptional resistance to corrosion and heat, safeguarding the contents and fortifying the overall longevity of the product.
- Design Challenge
- The canister features a double sealed design with a buckle and silicone ring. This design effectively prevents oxygen from compromising the beans, thus reducing the risk of oxidization and extending the shelf life of the coffee beans. The one way air vent valve can expel the carbon dioxide produced during coffee bean roasting, complemented by dual layer structure, blocking the entry of external gases and effectively preventing air factors from affecting the flavour of the coffee beans.
- Project Duration
- The project was designed on May 2, 2023, and was sold online on April 28, 2024.
- Operation Flow
- The product is equipped with a humidity monitoring meter to detect the storage environmental humidity in real time. It lets users promptly adjust the placement of the canister, ensuring the bean under the best storage conditions. Users can utilize the date recording disc on the top of the canister to note the date. With the metal bulletin board, users can document the information on the coffee beans stored, facilitating a visual assessment of the coffee bean freshness at a later stage.
- Research
- The storage condition influences the quality of coffee beans. Factors such as humidity, light, and air pressure directly impact the flavour and aroma of the beans once they are ground and brewed.Addressing this concern, this novel coffee bean storage canister improves structure and functions, providing appropriate storage conditions and ensuring prolonged preservation of coffee beans. These designs facilitate users brewing high quality coffee with well stored beans anytime.
- Inspiration
- Drawing inspiration from the WRC rally car prototype, the design team has given the canister a sleek and minimalist appearance, featuring a classic black and white colour scheme that exudes a professional and steady visual effect. This makes the product can harmoniously blend into various of modern home decoration styles.
