About For Angel Cupid Residence
For Angel Cupid is a residential interior design completed in Taiwan for a young married couple. The home covers about 132.2 square meters and includes an entryway, living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms, a computer room and two bathrooms. Light lacquer finishes replace the former dark walnut tones to increase brightness. Rounded edges and curved lines soften the layout. Glass partitions and line-based divisions separate the social area from the private area. A voice-controlled system with smart lighting supports daily comfort.
CHI-PEI CHANG's For Angel Cupid Residence exemplifies the evolved language of contemporary residential interior design, situating itself within the ongoing dialogue between mid-century modernist spatial openness and current preferences for textural warmth, organic sculptural form, and chromatic restraint that characterizes much accomplished domestic architecture in recent years. The design demonstrates considerable compositional sophistication through its asymmetrical yet balanced distribution of functional zones, wherein the kitchen and living areas occupy a continuous volume without physical barriers, relying instead on material differentiation, furniture placement, and implied spatial thresholds to articulate distinct yet related zones of activity and repose. The chromatic achievement lies in the disciplined restraint of the palette, which establishes a high-key neutral foundation of whites, creams, and soft taupes, then introduces carefully calibrated accents through warm brass and gold metallic tones that catch and reflect ambient light, creating points of luminous emphasis that elevate the overall atmospheric quality from clinical minimalism toward inviting warmth. Particularly successful is the handling of the marble-clad kitchen island, whose dramatic gray veining introduces organic patterning and tonal contrast that serves as visual anchor within the otherwise serene field, demonstrating technical facility in material selection and understanding of how geological stone can function simultaneously as functional surface and sculptural focal point. The furnishing strategy reveals sensitivity to scale, proportion, and the choreography of domestic movement, with rounded seating elements and biomorphic table forms softening the rectilinear architectural envelope and encouraging informal social interaction, while the generous sectional sofa establishes a zone of comfort and gathering that balances the more task-oriented kitchen area. Thematically, the residence appears to explore contemporary dwelling as curated experience, wherein material quality, spatial flow, and atmospheric lighting conspire to create environments that support both practical daily rituals and moments of aesthetic contemplation, reflecting broader cultural aspirations toward homes that function as retreats from external complexity, offering clarity, calm, and sensory pleasure through refined material relationships rather than ornamental excess. The integration of natural elements through potted greenery and the admission of diffused daylight suggests awareness of biophilic design principles and the human need for connection to natural rhythms and living systems even within highly controlled interior environments. One might observe how the residence balances opposing impulses, cool architectural minimalism tempered by warm material accents, sculptural drama moderated by functional clarity, aspiration grounded in livability, inviting viewers to consider how contemporary domestic space can simultaneously serve practical needs and fulfill deeper desires for beauty, order, and atmospheric resonance in the spaces we inhabit daily.

- Unique Properties
- The space was initially dark, damp, and musty, with walnut tones restricting natural light. The designer adjusted pathways, partitions, and plumbing, updating the facade with light-colored lacquer to enhance brightness. Rounded edges replaced sharp angles, creating a warm atmosphere. To meet the owners' needs, social and private areas were separated. The dining area was transformed into a computer room with glass partitions for entertainment. A voice-controlled system with smart lighting and scene settings improved convenience and comfort.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The interior covers a total area of approximately 132.2 square meters, featuring a living room, a dining room, and 3 plus 1 rooms, including an entryway, living room, dining room, kitchen, master bedroom, secondary bedroom, computer room, and two bathrooms. In the social area, to meet the owner's needs for hosting guests, the designer utilized line segmentation in the layout planning and space division to create visual guidance, effectively separating the private area from the social area.

- Production Technology
- Materials: ironwork, wooden cabinets, system cabinets, laminate flooring, glass, floor tiles, trims, marble, stone veneer, stone paint. The marble in the social area differs from typical water-cut surfaces, as it features a chiseled finish that retains the original natural texture and grain while still possessing a unique gloss similar to that of a smooth surface. Additionally, the distinctive pattern of the entrance floor tiles creates a warm and inviting image for welcoming residents' homes.
- Design Challenge
- The biggest challenge was configuring the smart home system. From removing and reconfiguring wiring, every step required meticulous planning with a focus on safety and functionality, consuming considerable time. The curved elements in the social area increased the risk of failure during glass installation, as perfect alignment demanded precise measurements. Additionally, the load-bearing wall, finished with stone paint, required careful application of each layer only after the previous one dried, ensuring a finely textured surface.
- Project Duration
- The project finished in February 2024 in Taiwan.
- Operation Flow
- The designer blended light tones and modern style elements to create the homeowners' dream residence. The space planning was thoughtfully designed with the residents' needs in mind. The use of different materials and natural patterns added distinctive highlights. The home features a spacious social area and a highly private personal space. What satisfied the homeowners the most was the smart home planning and design, which not only enhanced the convenience of living but also seamlessly integrated the home with their lifestyle.
- Research
- Stepping into the newlywed couple's haven, a warm palette creates a cozy atmosphere. Soft light enhances comfort, reflecting the couple's temperament. The designer reimagined the once angular space with curves and fresh tones, amplifying natural light. A lacquer-finished wall and curved accents brighten the space. From the entrance, curves bring a gentle aura, thoughtfully designed for the couple's lifestyle. The transparent glass behind the sofa balances social and private areas, blending light, privacy, and feng shui for the perfect sweet home.

Given their enjoyment of hosting gatherings, the design features warm and light tones, complemented by soft lighting to define different thematic areas.
