About Fairies Kinetic Earrings
Fairies is a pair of kinetic earrings inspired by the duality of day and night. The asymmetric duo includes Fairy of the Day, made in white gold with diamond flowers and a hidden emerald heart, and Fairy of the Night, made in blackened gold with a ruby heart, diamond stars and a crescent moon. Both figures have moving legs and individual faces. A 3D model was prototyped in wax and cast in gold, then finished by hand and polished. A total of 403 precious stones were set before the parts were joined. The pair remains light and wearable.
Drawing upon traditions of figurative jewelry that extend from ancient talismanic adornment through Renaissance pendant miniatures to the imaginative creations of Art Nouveau masters, Margarita Prysiazhniuk's Fairies Kinetic Earrings represent a remarkable synthesis of sculptural ambition, technical virtuosity, and poetic narrative within the intimate scale of personal adornment. The work engages directly with the longstanding fascination in decorative arts for capturing movement and transformation—a pursuit that connects these earrings to the mobiles of kinetic art pioneers and to the automata traditions of European court jewelers who sought to animate precious materials with mechanical ingenuity. Prysiazhniuk achieves this kinetic quality through careful engineering of suspended elements, allowing the diamond-laden skirts and briolette drops to respond to the wearer's movements, transforming static luxury objects into dynamic light-catching instruments that perform continuously throughout wear. The thematic content draws upon universal celestial symbolism, presenting complementary solar and lunar figures that together suggest cosmic completeness, the eternal dance of day and night, and the mythological tradition of personifying heavenly bodies as ethereal beings. The technical accomplishment merits particular attention: the contrast between oxidized and polished metal surfaces creates sculptural depth within miniature scale, while the strategic placement of singular colored gemstones establishes focal points that guide the eye and introduce chromatic warmth within the predominantly cool diamond palette. The rectangular frames function as architectural elements, suggesting theater prosceniums or windows into enchanted realms, elevating the composition beyond mere ornament toward narrative tableau. One might consider how these earrings invite their wearer to embody celestial mythology, to carry personified aspects of cosmic forces as intimate companions throughout daily experience.

- Production Technology
- Developed in the 3D Matrix program for the jewellery industry based on the Rhinoceros program, a 3D model was created. After the fairies were grown by prototyping on a 3D printer from wax, the cast was made in gold. They were processed by hand and polished with jewellery threads, for the perfect shine of the gems and showing their cut, clarity and colour. After that, 403 precious stones were fixed into the base product and only then the parts were connected into the final figurines.
- Design Challenge
- The number one challenge is to combine the design of the piece with its technical side while maintaining it lightweight, wearable and ergonomic.
- Project Duration
- The project started in January 2020 in London and finished in January 2021 in London. The overall process of production, improvements and quality check took about one year. These earrings have never been exhibited before.
- Operation Flow
- The earrings have multiple wondrous features, such as hidden details, moving legs, ruby and emerald hearts, and different individual faces.
- Research
- Traditionally, jewellers have created static pieces for thousands of years. By adding movement to the jewellery I allow our pieces to come alive, inspired by the beauty of magic and nature. As a jeweller, my concept is to find ways to introduce kinetic effects and hidden secrets that are a unique joy to own.
- Inspiration
- This project was inspired by the duality of Day and Night and my sincere belief that all women have something magical about them, just like Fairies. Asymmetric and contrasting, yet with their secrets alike, this duality demonstrates how different and similarly spectacular women can be any time of the day. No matter the appearance or skin tone, age or beliefs, all of us are mesmerising Fairies, gifting our magic to the dearest ones when our hearts are filled with love.
