- Operation Flow
- Due to the engagement of natural sunlight and interior lighting flow displaying on the facade, it provides a cozy area and opens up a complete space from outside to the inside on the second floor including the balcony, living room, dining area, and kitchen space. The linear living space contains different daily use functions yet connects all living habits and interactions of a family.
- Research
- Prelude to the design development, the team studied the building base of this project and discovered that this long, rectangular shape building base could be traced back to the long street house in Taiwan. The long street houses were a unique housing union typology built alongside commercial canals with two sides of open windows and doors where people conducted commercial activities, and the main family living area was based on the second floor. Therefore, in this project, the design team challenges to design that pays tribute to the implication of old history in Tainan by applying this unique methodology to only use two sides of open windows to develop this project.
- Inspiration
- Owing to the environment of southern Taiwan, Tainan, where daylight is sufficient and adequate, this townhouse project focuses on bringing the daylight in and providing the best lighting for the interior spaces. Under the premise of designing a customized townhouse for a family of 4, the designer focused on finding the optimal solution to make the utmost use of this long, rectangular building shape while engaging all the living habits of a Taiwanese family.

Design Interview about Cozy Essence Residential Townhouse
The main principle behind the design project is "coziness," which the designer tried to indicate by integrating elements of forms, lights, colors, and texture. The interior design is inspired by the cozy vibe and slow-paced lifestyle of Tainan City itself.
The main focus of this work is to provide a sense of comfort when the users enter the interior space. In order to achieve this goal, the design team focuses on every detail and considers every element repeatedly and thoroughly.
The future plans would be to use this winning opportunity as motivation and come up with other better designs, sharing the best living experience with those who share the same living philosophy as us.
It depends on the project, and in this case, it takes almost a month to come up with the best solution to the interior design.
Designing a place for people to live in everyday is the most interesting type of work in this field in our opinion. Since it is the place we come home to everyday, it is otherwise important that we consider every living habits and scenarios of the users.
The target customer would be a family who loves to spend quality time together in their home and love the slow-vibe of Tainan City.
The name of the design is basically the main idea of this work. The materials, methodology, and expressions in this design all focus on providing a cozy vibe of the space. Without this primary concept, this design would not have even existed.
The data and analytical research were not implied in this project; however, we definitely would like to explore different possibilities in the future.
It is always the construction process that needs most of our attention. One time, on the second-floor construction, he blacksmith we worked with did not complete the shelves to the best quality, and eventually, the shelves had to be rebuilt from scratch to meet with our high construction quality standard.
We are a local design company based in Tainan, Taiwan, and we would like to share and promote the beautiful city by gaining more international attention. We think by joining an international design competition could assist us to achieve this goal.
