About Xingshufu Banouet Restaurant

Xingshufu Banouet is a restaurant interior designed for high-end dining centred on Sichuan cuisine. The venue covers 680 square metres and is located in a financial district of Shanghai. The design combines oriental elements with a contemporary approach, using controlled changes in colour brightness to give the space clear layers. Main materials include wood veneer, vintage stainless steel, marble, leather, mirrored stainless steel, mosaic and Malay paint. A strong visual focal point makes the space memorable and supports the identity of the dining brand.

Within the realm of contemporary hospitality design, Haodong Liu's Xingshufu Banquet Restaurant emerges as a sophisticated meditation on the dialogue between ancestral symbolic traditions and contemporary spatial practice, manifesting an environment where mythological narrative becomes lived experience. The installation commands attention through its centerpiece dragon sculpture, a creature rendered in lustrous silver metal whose serpentine form coils with dynamic energy around a vertical axis, suggesting perpetual motion and cosmic vitality within an otherwise composed architectural framework. The designer demonstrates remarkable sensitivity to chromatic atmosphere, orchestrating warm cinnabar and terracotta tones that envelope diners in what might be understood as symbolic warmth and auspicious energy, while the honeycomb ceiling pattern introduces textural complexity and filtered illumination that transforms the overhead plane into an almost celestial canopy. Technical accomplishment manifests in the seamless integration of disparate elements, from the organic intrusion of fruit-bearing branches that soften geometric rigidity to the contemporary hearth element whose sculptural base echoes mountainous terrain while housing actual flame. The spatial choreography guides visitors through layered thresholds marked by graceful archways, establishing a processional quality that elevates dining from mere sustenance to ceremonial participation. One observes in the material palette a thoughtful balance between reflective surfaces that animate the space with captured light and absorptive textiles that provide acoustic and visual warmth. The work invites consideration of how contemporary designers might honor cultural symbolic vocabularies while creating genuinely innovative spatial experiences, perhaps prompting viewers to reflect upon the role of mythological imagery in shaping communal gathering spaces and the enduring human desire to dine within environments that transcend the ordinary.

Design Challenge
The unchanging space image of traditional catering brands is like a double-edged sword. It is difficult to change in the fast-growing market after the fixed symbols are memorized. The designer redefined the brand space strategy with thousands of stores and thousands of faces, and more precise gene control brought more free space vision, so that change and unchanged won the market and diners.
Project Duration
The project started in February 2023 in Torino and finished in July 2023 in Rimini.
Operation Flow
The brand new visual design accurately controls the change of color brightness, harmoniously matches and makes the space layered. A good space can not only bring people a beautiful visual experience, but also enhance the thematic information of catering brands. The fire that has experienced the changes of the times gives a vivid and interesting emotional accumulation, which also fits in with the atmosphere of the space and is complete with each other.
Research
In view of the characteristics and development trend of catering space design, by analyzing the artistic elements of western Sichuan culture and combining with the brand, we fully explore the characteristics of Bashu culture and art. Starting from its natural scenery, history and humanities and other aspects, on the basis of its decorative functions and humanized practical functions, we explore the integration of Bashu cultural elements into catering space design, so that the catering space has cultural heritage, highlights the spiritual connotation, and realizes unique catering space design.
Inspiration
Method first, strategy first. The starting point of this design strategy is how to create a deep memory point in the hearts of diners by shaping space, and further form a brand. In addition to the objective existence of functions, space also highlights its own personality in terms of form, color, and texture expression. By creating a subject with strong visual appeal in space, completing a crucial step that is memorable.
