About Tsubomiya Osteopathic Clinic
This osteopathic clinic is modeled after a luxury inn. It is located on the first floor of a building in Osaka's business district. Once you pass through the noren curtain, you will find a small garden with stone lanterns and gravel, and you will be instantly drawn into a Japanese world. The interior of the store is decorated in calming colors such as gray and black, and the wooden walls add a comfortable sexiness. With pleasant background music playing and incense burning, it is a very relaxing Japanese space, which is why it is visited by many tourists from overseas.
SHUNSUKE OHE's Tsubomiya Osteopathic Clinic represents a thoughtfully conceived healthcare reception environment that demonstrates sophisticated integration of architectural language, material sensibility, and experiential design principles within the specialized typology of therapeutic wellness spaces, the project appears to engage contemporary discourse surrounding patient-centered design, biophilic wellness strategies, and the humanization of clinical environments through material warmth and spatial sequence, the compositional achievement rests substantially in the orchestration of horizontal layering as organizational principle, establishing visual rhythm through repeating timber bands, stacked reception desk planes, and modular seating platforms that collectively generate coherent architectural vocabulary speaking to stability, order, and approachability, the chromatic accomplishment deserves particular recognition for its calibrated warmth employing honey and amber timber tones alongside the strategic ochre accent wall, these selections move decisively away from institutional coolness toward residential warmth while maintaining professional clarity through neutral concrete-textured surfaces and the disciplined charcoal ceiling plane, the lighting design emerges as notably successful passage demonstrating layered strategy combining ambient cove illumination, task-oriented downlighting, and the signature backlit logo creating not merely functional visibility but atmospheric modulation and wayfinding through luminous cues, the spatial sequence suggests careful attention to patient experience choreography, the perspective recession draws visitors forward through the timber-lined corridor toward the destination reception desk while foreground seating offers pause and the biophilic floral elements provide visual rest and seasonal connection, material selections reveal sensitivity to healthcare-specific performance requirements balancing hygienic durability in stone flooring and solid surface desk construction against acoustic and tactile comfort in textile upholstery and carpet definition, the incorporation of natural botanical elements particularly the cherry blossom and forsythia branches introduces organic irregularity and temporal change into the geometry establishing dialogue between architectural permanence and natural ephemerality, this environmental intervention may reference longstanding traditions of interior landscape integration in wellness contexts where living elements signal vitality, seasonal awareness, and connection to larger natural cycles, the overall environment seems to explore how clinical spaces might cultivate calm, dignity, and therapeutic optimism through architectural means, moving beyond mere functional accommodation toward spatial experience that supports healing processes, one might consider how this reception threshold establishes first impressions and emotional framing for therapeutic encounters, how material warmth and dimensional intimacy might reduce anxiety inherent in medical visits, and how the careful editing of form, material, and light creates sanctuary from external complexity.

- Design Challenge
- Chiropractic clinics with a design like this Japanese inn are very rare, and for that reason, many overseas tourists also visit.
In addition to the purpose of healing the body, it is also to enjoy the Japanese space.
It is also a place where you can catch a glimpse of Japanese culture. - Project Duration
- Project Duration : From December 2023 to February 2024 Project location : Osaka(Japan)
- Operation Flow
- In addition to the base lighting in the entrance and the passageway to the treatment rooms, there is also indirect lighting in various places, and the light and dark of the lighting is designed in a systematic way.
There are four treatment rooms, all of which are private rooms. Compared to the entrance and passageway, the lighting is dimmer. This is to allow customers to relax, and they can heal their tired bodies while smelling incense and listening to Japanese background music in a dimly lit space. - Research
- The design of many chiropractic clinics in Japan is inorganic and simplified, and they are places that simply aim to heal the body, but this place is different.
The aim is not only to heal the body, but also to heal the mind.
To this end, the space design is based on a clear concept, and the space is reminiscent of a Japanese inn.
At first glance, it does not look like a chiropractic clinic, so people who visit this place without knowing anything about it will probably be surprised and impressed. - Inspiration
- This clinic is designed to resemble a luxury inn. It is located on the first floor of a building in Osaka's business district.
