The House of Sol lock, a revolutionary addition to contemporary jewelry, combines luxury and functionality. Crafted from high-quality materials like 24k gold, 14k gold adorned with diamonds, or gold-filled 925 silver, it offers unique customization. Its innovative dual-opening mechanism, operable with one hand, allows for easy swapping of elements such as pearls or turquoise, providing versatility in style. This detachable lock, compatible with various necklaces, challenges the norm of fixed locks in jewelry design and serves sustainability principles without compromising quality.
The House of Sol Jewelry Lock by Sevim Nazlican Yoney emerges from a distinguished tradition of jewelry design that transforms functional necessity into aesthetic statement, elevating the humble clasp from mere mechanical closure to central design protagonist. This award-winning work demonstrates remarkable sensitivity to the dialogue between organic and manufactured forms, positioning an architecturally conceived gold lock mechanism as the commanding element within a composition of baroque and keshi freshwater pearls whose irregular natural geometries speak to the unpredictable beauty of marine nacre formation. The technical accomplishment reveals itself in multiple registers: the precision engineering of the lock mechanism, which appears to employ a sophisticated closure system rendered in warm-toned precious metal with satin finishing that diffuses light across its surfaces, the careful curation of pearl specimens exhibiting varied morphologies from flattened disc shapes to bulbous baroque formations, and the considered arrangement that allows each element to maintain visual autonomy while participating in unified compositional flow. The engraved monogram cartouche centered upon the lock face introduces heraldic resonance, suggesting lineage and legacy while functioning as signature element that transforms utilitarian hardware into branded luxury object. - Production Technology
- The production process encompasses both manual and 3D design, along with the creation of prototypes. This is followed by high-precision casting, the use of laser technology and traditional welding, and a hand-finished touch. At the last step, depending on the order, it is either produced from 14k gold or filled with micron gold over 925 sterling silver.
- Design Challenge
- The HoS lock design should balance aesthetics, functionality, and comfort by addressing these necessities: 1)It should be big enough to have sufficient interior space for a complex interior design, ensuring that both ends of the House of Sol lock can be mutually opened, but it should still be visually appealing by not being too large. 2) The lock must be strong and sturdy to support numerous heavy lines of pearls and chains simultaneously, yet still lightweight and comfortable enough to be worn for long hours We spent more than a year conducting research and development, creating multiple prototypes, to design a lock that meets all the desired specifications above, after that we launched the brand.

- The process of concept making and design began in Istanbul at GrandBazaar in 2020 and was finished in the subsequent year.
- Operation Flow
- The House of Sól lock has a rare feature where both ends can be opened simultaneously, unlike typical jewelry locks. Furthermore, the lock can be operated with one hand, offering women autonomy in jewelry wear. Each lock end functions independently, providing unmatched versatility. This detachability allows the lock to be used interchangeably on various necklaces, a unique characteristic that sets it apart in the market where conventional locks are permanently attached to necklaces.
- Inspiration
- House of Sól (HoS) offers a unique take on fast fashion, with a design strategy revolving around the lock. This blend of function and aesthetics has resulted in sustainable jewelry collections that are cherished worldwide. One HoS lock opens up a world of personalization, allowing customers to create their collection from elements like pearls, turquoise, wood, or coral necklaces from HoS' collection. They can also mix&match different necklaces and bracelets from the HoS collection as well as their personal ones.
