About The Great Silk Road Womenswear Collection

The Great Silk Road is a womenswear collection inspired by the historic trade route that linked East and West. The collection consists of twenty garments, including hats. Each piece is made of natural fabrics and decorated by hand with natural silk ribbons. The headdresses are made entirely by hand from silk fabrics of different textures. The patterns repeat the wind on desert sands, the rice terraces of China and the lines of rock faults. Each item is presented as a postcard from a travel destination. The couture garments can be combined and worn in daily life.

Production Technology
For the manufacture of decor in my work, ribbons made of natural silk were used. These ribbons are sewn by hand. Patterns on products repeat patterns of wind in the sand, rice terraces in China, patterns of faults in rocks.
Design Challenge
This design was quite complicated in execution, because the main work was done manually. It took a lot of time. And I also wanted to convey a complex range of impressions from studying the history of the Great Silk Road.
Project Duration
The project began in 2013, when the first coat in this technique was created.
Then the collection was gradually replenished.
In 2018, an exhibition was held in Russia, the city of Samara, called the Great Silk Road.
in 2018, this collection took part in the contest "New Names in Design", the city of Samara, Russia
in 2018, the collection became the winner of the fashion festival, Russia, Samara.
in 2019, the collection won the Ulyanovsk fashion week contest
Operation Flow
All garments look alive. Different items of clothing go well together.
This is a couture clothing that is comfortable to wear in everyday life.
Research
This collection is an attempt to combine the eastern and western cultures that are inside of me. This is a story about the beauty of the East, as travelers of the Great Silk Road once told about it many centuries ago. Each item is a postcard from different travel destinations or a valuable gift in the East. You can see the rice terraces of China, and the night peonies in the Japanese garden, and the wind patterns on the sands of the desert, and feel the coolness of the oasis, and open the Chinese casket
Inspiration
The Great Silk Road is not just a trade route, it is a unique historical phenomenon that introduced two different worlds - east and west. This is the appearance of new cities and countries, this is the spread of science and culture, this is the path to unknown and new discoveries. This collection is my view of the mysterious east. Blooming Japanese gardens, patterns of wind on the sands of the desert, cool oases, desert mirages, rice terraces, varnished Chinese caskets can all be seen in my collection.

Design Interview about The Great Silk Road Womenswear Collection

Most of all I am inspired by people, their traditions, characters, stories, fates. And of course, the extraordinary beauty of our planet.

I was very inspired by the idea of the Great Silk Road. This adventure, and surprise, and anticipation, and loss, and knowledge, and new discoveries, and extraordinary nature, and the most important idea of uniting East and West, which is very close to me. I wanted to tell you about it in a beautiful design language that is accessible to me.

The bulk of the collection has already been sold out, but I plan to expand this collection. These new things will be lighter, inspired by dawn and spring.

It took about a month to develop the concept, and the collection itself was created about a year.

First of all, I was looking for inspiration, but this collection is very convenient in everyday life.

This design has already been produced. Each item is handmade in a single copy. But, I think, you can think about increasing production. How this will be done, I have not decided yet.

I like to work with fabric, especially silk.

I try not to be inspired by the work of other people. This allows me to remain genuine and unlike others.

My target customers are women who love sophistication, beauty, charm.

I did not compare different designs. But this, like a fingerprint, each person has his own.
If initially you didn’t copy someone’s design, but created your own, grew it like pearl from a grain of sand, then your design will be unique.

The Great Silk Road is not just a trade route, it is a unique historical phenomenon that introduced two different worlds - east and west. This is the emergence of new cities and countries, this is the spread of science and culture, this is the path to the unknown and new discoveries.

This is the story of my inner state. An attempt to find a balance between the European way of life and oriental roots.

The work of the project needed the help of a professional tailor

When creating the project, a large role was assigned to manual production.

Before the creation of the collection, no studies were conducted. It was an inspiration.

There were no particular problems when creating the collection, except for a lack of time. But this is a common thing in any job)

I decided to submit my design at a competition on the advice of friends. They convinced me that my work deserves an international award.

While working on the project, I delved into the study of history, mastered some techniques for working with fabric.
