About The Beijing Parade Restaurant
The Beijing Parade is a restaurant interior located in Beijing. The space of 1800 square meters follows a Belt and Road theme and recalls the Tang Dynasty in an abstract way. The plan is formed mainly by private rooms and corridors, without a lobby. The antehall uses axe-split stone, an old copper logo, red shelves, an original stone tea table, red wine racks and large floral decorations. Rock cliff installations carry dry trunks and branches with moss and sparse flowers. A pagoda lamp marks the end of the corridor.
Ao Han's The Beijing Parade Restaurant achieves a masterful synthesis of traditional architectural vocabulary and contemporary spatial dramaturgy, creating an immersive dining environment that transforms the act of entry into ceremonial procession. The design draws upon centuries of architectural tradition in which lattice screens, known for their ability to modulate light and define space while maintaining visual permeability, served both practical and symbolic functions within domestic and sacred architecture. Here, these historical precedents undergo significant material and experiential transformation: the lattice elements, rendered in saturated crimson and illuminated from behind, become luminous architectural instruments that simultaneously define boundaries and dissolve them through their translucent radiance. The designer demonstrates exceptional command of perspectival dynamics, exploiting the natural convergence of one-point perspective to create a spatial narrative that draws visitors forward through progressive revelation, culminating in the golden pagoda that serves as both destination and symbol. The chromatic strategy proves equally sophisticated, employing red—a hue carrying profound cultural associations with celebration, prosperity, and auspicious gathering—not as decorative accent but as total environmental condition. The reflective floor surface introduces a vertical axis of symmetry that amplifies the sense of spatial magnitude within what may be relatively modest actual dimensions, a technique that suggests deep understanding of perceptual psychology applied to hospitality contexts. The pagoda's warm golden glow provides essential visual relief and symbolic anchoring, its traditional multi-tiered form connecting contemporary diners to enduring cultural memory. What questions might arise when considering how architectural space shapes not merely the physical experience of gathering but the emotional and cultural resonances that transform ordinary dining into meaningful ritual?

The space is featured by concise and refined style, but reveals an ingeniously subtle clue and metaphor of those brilliant achievements of the Silk Road, which is a reinterpretation of the historical nodes of the great international exchanges. - Image Credits
