About Syha Sanitary Pad Packaging

Syha's refreshed branding embraces the quiet power of the moon, a symbol woven through centuries of mythology, femininity, and renewal. Rooted in the natural cycles that shape our lives, the moon reflects the brand’s core values: empowerment, reflection, and transformation. Subtle lunar phases ripple through the packaging design, a nod to the ebb and flow of nature and the rhythms of self care. This unifying motif anchors the range in a shared visual language, seamlessly connecting each product while reinforcing Syha's commitment to sustainability and mindful beauty.

Within the evolving discourse of contemporary packaging design, Angela Spindler's Syha Sanitary Pad Packaging emerges as a thoughtful meditation on how visual communication can transform everyday personal care products into objects of aesthetic consideration and emotional resonance. The work participates in a broader movement toward destigmatization through design excellence, employing a refined chromatic vocabulary where warm amber-orange, soft coral, dusty lavender, and serene teal tones create an atmosphere of calm approachability while signaling premium quality and environmental consciousness. The designer demonstrates sophisticated command of typographic hierarchy, positioning the brand logotype in an elegant serif face with distinctive swash flourishes that evoke both contemporary refinement and timeless femininity, while secondary informational text maintains clarity through careful weight and scale relationships. The embossed circular motifs adorning each package surface function simultaneously as tactile engagement points and symbolic elements suggesting lunar cycles, wholeness, and natural rhythms, an iconographic choice that speaks to bodily experience without explicit representation. Material choices communicated through the typography, referencing organic cotton and biodegradable substrates, align visual premium positioning with ethical consumption values increasingly central to contemporary brand relationships. The overall compositional strategy, presenting multiple color variants in careful arrangement, demonstrates systems thinking characteristic of accomplished identity design, where individual elements gain meaning through relationship while maintaining coherent family resemblance. What questions might this work raise about the transformative potential of considered design in reshaping cultural conversations around bodily care and personal wellness?

Unique Properties
Celebrating Nature, Sustainability, and Self-Care.

We were invited to refresh the identity and packaging
for Syha, a menstrual wellness brand committed to easing
the discomfort of periods with plant-based products. The
original packaging did not effectively resonate with
women; it was overly industrial and lacked the empathy
needed to speak to the needs and experiences of the
modern consumer.
Dimensions & Packaging
The packaging is printed on an uncoated box board using spot colours, blind embossed and finished with an all-over aqueous varnish.

Production Technology
Inspired by the richness of Western Australia’s terrain, we chose a colour palette that reflects both the serenity of nature and its fiery strength. This blend not only enhances the visual identity but also aligns with the product's purpose and function, offering a balance that feels soothing and energizing—just like the brand itself.

To further elevate the packaging we integrated subtle finishes such as blind embossing and a flat matte finish. The blind embossing technique subtly draws attention to key elements of the design without overwhelming the visual narrative, offering a tactile yet refined experience that reflects the brand’s authenticity and care.
Design Challenge
There were no particular challenges, other than having it printed offshore.
Project Duration
The project started in December 2023, was finalised and launched in September 2024, Australia

Through thoughtful design and a deep understanding of Syha’s mission, we’ve helped them connect with women on a more personal, empathetic level.
Inspiration
In developing Syha’s refreshed branding, Depot drew upon the timeless symbolism of the moon—a symbol that has long been associated with the cycles of women’s lives. The moon represents empowerment, reflection, and renewal, which makes it the perfect central motif for Syha’s identity. The moon’s subtle phases are integrated throughout the packaging, mirroring the natural rhythms of life and honouring cycles of change and renewal.
