About Silver Lining Ambient Light
The Silver Lining chandelier introduces a sleek, modern lighting solution designed to enhance high-pressure workspaces. Crafted from thirteen precision-cut acrylic pieces, it captures and diffuses light to create a bright, uplifting atmosphere. Measuring 27.5 inches by 51.5 inches, its minimalist form seamlessly integrates with angular office aesthetics. This statement piece transforms its environment, fostering a professional yet inspiring ambiance. By blending contemporary elegance with functional brilliance, it enhances both creativity and productivity.
Silver Lining Ambient Light by Deval Ambani represents a sophisticated exploration of transparency, geometric order, and light as sculptural medium that positions itself within the rich lineage of twentieth-century investigations into phenomenological perception and spatial dematerialization while simultaneously engaging contemporary LED technology's capacity for precise chromatic control and energy-efficient illumination. The installation's formal achievement resides in its successful negotiation between functional lighting apparatus and autonomous aesthetic object, dissolving traditional categorical boundaries through elegant material restraint and compositional intelligence. The work comprises seven vertically oriented transparent acrylic panels suspended at carefully calibrated intervals from minimalist black mounting infrastructure, each panel activated along its perimeter edges with warm amber-toned linear illumination that transforms industrial thermoplastic material into glowing geometric drawing in three-dimensional space. The compositional sophistication emerges through asymmetrical spatial orchestration that suggests both rational geometric order reminiscent of Constructivist relief compositions and organic crystalline growth patterns observed in mineral formation, creating visual tension between systematic arrangement and apparently intuitive positioning. The technical execution demonstrates considerable refinement in material fabrication, with optically clear acrylic panels exhibiting exceptional transparency and minimal visual distortion, edge-lighting implementation that achieves uniform luminous intensity along perimeter boundaries, and concealed electrical infrastructure that preserves geometric purity. The chromatic strategy limiting the palette to warm amber glow at approximately 2700-3000 Kelvin against cool blue-grey environmental surfaces establishes temperature contrast that amplifies the intimate domestic warmth of the luminous elements while the transparent substrate generates complex perceptual layering as viewers simultaneously perceive multiple spatial planes in continuous visual field. The work arguably engages fundamental modernist concerns about materiality and immateriality, exploring how solid acrylic panels can appear to dematerialize through transparency while light itself becomes tangible material presence through edge activation. The installation seems to reference architectural fenestration patterns, suggesting windows or portals that frame not exterior views but rather the spatial relationships between transparent planes themselves, transforming utilitarian lighting into contemplative experience. The overlapping intersections where glowing edges cross create additive luminous intensification that maps spatial relationships and generates subtle optical phenomena including reflections and refractive effects that reward sustained attention. The suspension system's minimal black elements provide necessary structural support while maintaining visual discretion, allowing the luminous geometric composition to command primary attention within the gallery environment. The scale achieves careful calibration between intimate approachability and commanding spatial presence, neither overwhelming the viewer nor receding into decorative background but rather occupying middle ground that invites contemplative engagement. One might observe affinities with Dan Flavin's pioneering investigations of fluorescent light as sculptural medium, James Turrell's perceptual environments exploring light and space, and László Moholy-Nagy's explorations of transparency and kinetic light, yet this work distinguishes itself through integration of contemporary LED technology enabling warmer color temperatures and more refined linear geometries than earlier fluorescent or incandescent precedents permitted. The installation invites consideration of how technological advancement in lighting opens new aesthetic possibilities while the fundamental human attraction to light as metaphysical presence, spatial organizer, and perceptual phenomenon remains constant across historical periods and cultural contexts. How might our experience of architectural space, domestic environment, or contemplative encounter transform when illumination itself becomes primary compositional element rather than invisible infrastructure enabling vision of other objects, and what new relationships between functionality and aesthetic experience become possible when these categories interpenetrate rather than remaining distinct?

- Production Technology
- The Silver Lining Chandelier is made from CNC-cut 12mm transparent acrylic sheets with 8W LED strip light in each piece. It is designed for optimal light diffusion. The 13 modular parts enhance refraction and shadow play. This creates a dynamic visual effect. The light source remains completely undetectable. The lightweight structure allows easy installation. It also requires minimal maintenance. Inspired by parametric design, it blends sharp aesthetics with advanced lighting techniques.
- Design Challenge
- The hardest part was to create a chandelier that would look formal and not decorative, as it was in an office setup. Also making it conceptually strong. From a production point, I did not want the LED light dots to be visible. So we brainstormed to resolve the issue.
- Project Duration
- The project started in Dec 2022 and finished in feb 2023.
- Operation Flow
- The Silver Lining Chandelier operates with a switch, activating strategically placed led modules for uniform illumination. The 13 cnc-cut acrylic sheets interact with light, creating dynamic refractions and layered shadows. Its modular composition allows seamless integration into various interiors. The chandelier creates warmth, fills the room with positivity, and serves as a conversation starter, enhancing spatial aesthetics and professional ambiance.
