About Pullman Yuxi Deluxe Five Star Hotel
Pullman Yuxi is a five star resort hotel located in Yuxi City, Yunnan Province, China. The design places the hotel in harmony with the surrounding mountains and makes full use of the outdoor landscape. Water is used as a medium to reflect the colors and the panorama of Yuxi, adding a symbolic feature to the hotel. The artistic imagery of Chinese painting is applied to the space, which is simple and elegant. Local Yunnan craftsmanship and the textures of traditional ethnic architecture appear in the interior details. Indoor and outdoor areas are connected through the site and the building.
Within the tradition of contemporary hospitality design that synthesizes regional cultural heritage with international luxury standards, this interior by Luo Dan - DDA for the Pullman Yuxi Deluxe Five Star Hotel demonstrates exceptional command of monumental scale tempered by refined material sensibility and thoughtful atmospheric orchestration. The design appears to engage deeply with the visual language of traditional landscape painting, incorporating large-scale murals that evoke the misty mountain ranges and ancient pine forests characteristic of classical ink-wash aesthetics, thereby grounding the contemporary architectural vocabulary in established cultural coordinates. The ceiling structure, with its radiating timber beams and interwoven geometric lattice, suggests possible references to traditional roof construction reinterpreted through modernist structural expression, creating a dynamic canopy that guides visual movement while establishing ceremonial gravitas appropriate to the entry experience. Particularly notable is the integration of suspended sculptural elements whose organic, leaf-like or feather-like forms introduce biomorphic softness within the otherwise rectilinear framework, their translucent materiality and delicate coloration contributing ethereal lightness that balances the substantial stone and timber surfaces. The chromatic strategy demonstrates sophisticated restraint, building primarily upon warm natural wood tones, cool gray stones, and neutral whites, with strategic accents of celadon green and gilt introducing chromatic punctuation without overwhelming the harmonious whole. The reflective marble floor functions as more than mere surface, actively participating in spatial amplification through its mirror-like finish that visually doubles the impressive volume. One might observe how the design navigates the challenge of creating intimate human-scaled zones within monumental architectural space, positioning seating arrangements along the periphery while maintaining the ceremonial clarity of the central processional axis. What personal memories or associations might visitors carry forward from their encounter with this carefully orchestrated threshold experience?

- Production Technology
- The designer applied Yunnan's unique craftsmanship, the texture of traditional ethnic architecture and unique details to the interior design, deeply presenting the customs and local humanistic spirit. Make a new interpretation of traditional elements and express the art of life in details.
- Design Challenge
- During the project process, the mountainous terrain brought certain restrictions to the design, while the design and construction took into account the protection of the original natural environment. Through ingenious design, each room has plenty of light, and at the same time, the use of environmentally friendly materials reduces the impact on the vegetation and animals of the nearby forest.
- Project Duration
- The project started in August 2021 in Yuxi City, Yunnan Province, China, and finished in July 2022.
- Operation Flow
- This project connects the indoor and outdoor spaces through the site and the building, bringing the combination of the indoor space and the external natural scenery.
- Research
- The project is located in Yunnan Province, where the prosperity of mountain tourism has brought a huge demand for resort hotel design. The designer researched the issue of mid-mountain resorts that have attracted much attention in the local tourism industry, that is, resorts integrated with mountains. The specific goal was to explore how the hotel spaces could be integrated with the original landscape. We have borrowed some methods from ancient books of Chinese landscape painting and classical gardening methods and combined them with modern design aesthetics. The designer hopes to bring some new ideas to the local "Mid-mountain Hotel" trend, such as the combination of traditional painting aesthetics, the discovery and utilization of local handicrafts, and the protection of the original natural environment.
- Inspiration
- The inspiration for the project comes from the raindrops, cooking smoke, and clouds in the plateau water town. The designer skillfully integrates the building and the mountain, reinterprets it with modern craftsmanship and aesthetics, and breaks the inherent thinking. The sense of interaction with nature becomes the prominent element of this design. The indoor and outdoor spaces are connected through the site and the building, just like being in the picturesque mountain nature.
