About Polyot Restaurant
Polyot is a restaurant interior located in Moscow. The design recalls the setting of a science fiction film. Sleek steel shapes and portholes at the entrance make the space resemble the cabin of a space shuttle. Minimalism is a guiding principle, so patterns and ornaments are absent from the walls and from the design elements. Large shining objects are used instead. Two silver figures, each 3.6 meters tall, stand on symmetric columns at the entrance. All furniture and lighting were custom made for the project.
Situated within the contemporary discourse surrounding experiential hospitality design, Alina Pimkina's Polyot Restaurant represents an accomplished meditation on the poetics of flight translated into architectural and interior vocabulary, where the very notion of departure, journey, and aspiration becomes embedded within material and spatial choices rather than merely applied as decorative overlay. The designer appears to have drawn upon both industrial heritage aesthetics and the romance of aviation history, creating an environment where diners experience culinary craft within a setting that evokes the optimism and wonder associated with human flight. The technical achievement of the illuminated concrete column merits particular attention, as the integration of aircraft silhouettes within the structural mass demonstrates sophisticated coordination between architectural, electrical, and sculptural considerations, resulting in a feature that functions simultaneously as wayfinding beacon, atmospheric illumination, and thematic statement. The chromatic strategy reveals careful calibration, with warm copper and rose gold metallics creating visual warmth that softens the potentially austere industrial palette of concrete and steel, while the blush-toned seating introduces hospitality and comfort appropriate to the dining function. The open kitchen arrangement participates in contemporary culinary culture's celebration of transparency and craft, positioning food preparation as theatrical performance worthy of visual engagement while maintaining appropriate separation through glass partitions that preserve acoustic comfort. One might observe how the design balances monumental gesture with intimate scale, allowing the soaring vertical column and double-height ceiling to coexist with human-proportioned furniture groupings that create comfortable dining alcoves within the larger spatial volume. What aspirations, memories, or imaginative journeys might this environment inspire as patrons gather beneath its gently glowing aircraft, suspended between earth and the dreams of sky?

- Unique Properties
- The interior of the ‘Polyot’ restaurant reminds the scenery for a sci-fi movie. The sleek steel shapes and portholes at the entrance make the room look like the cabin of a space shuttle. One of the main principles in the interior of ‘Polyot’ is minimalism. There is a lack of decor to which the audience in Moscow restaurants is so used, no patterns and ornaments on the walls and in design elements. Instead there are large shining objects.

- The main problem of futurism projects is the feeling of coldness. Our task was to create - a cozy futurism.
- Project Duration
- The project started in May 2018 and finished in July 2019. The restaurant is located at: 2 Khodynsky Boulevard, Russian Federation, Moscow, 125167
- Operation Flow
- This restaurant is already open for guests and successfully operates under the guidance of a restaurateur - Kira Baybakova.
- Research
- We studied the many futuristic movements of the 20th century to understand and create a restaurant in the style of "modern futurism". The greatest influence on us was made by the book "Dune" - this determined the main trend of the restaurant - to create the feeling of being on another planet.
- Inspiration
- We wanted to convey energy, speed, strength and dynamism to give the guests an opportunity to experience new emotions and futuristic vibes. Clear, but unusual geometry served as an important principle in the creation of this space. We used streamlined shapes, curved lines and asymmetrical angles.
Huge silver Martian goddesses like figures are installed on symmetric columns at the entrance. They can be easily placed in the decorations of the Hollywood movie about new civilizations. The interior does not press with its seriousness, but on the contrary inspires and gives wings. - Image Credits
