About Paradise Village Villa

Paradise Village is the interior design of a villa located in Anji, Zhejiang, China. The villa covers 674 square metres and was completed in April 2020. The design follows the principle of respecting nature and protecting the local ecology. Straw wallpaper and bamboo elements give the rooms a natural character within an oriental order. Lattice doors open and close around a central axis, so light and shadow move through the interior. Time, space and light link the residents with the surrounding landscape and create a calm setting for rest.

Ben Wu's Paradise Village Villa exemplifies the contemporary pursuit of harmonious dwelling that positions architecture as a mediating membrane between human habitation and natural environment. This interior space, recognized with the Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, demonstrates exceptional command of spatial sequencing and material palette coordination that elevates residential design to experiential art. The suspended fireplace functions as both functional heating element and sculptural centerpiece, its organic silhouette introducing biomorphic counterpoint to the rectilinear architectural framework while its dark finish anchors the otherwise ethereal composition. Wu's material strategy orchestrates a sophisticated dialogue between warm timber surfaces overhead and cool neutral textiles below, creating thermal visual balance that resonates with East Asian design philosophies emphasizing the complementary interplay of opposing forces. The deliberate transparency of the building envelope transforms the surrounding mountainscape into an ever-changing artwork, suggesting the work participates in longstanding traditions of borrowed scenery found in classical garden design, where distant views become integral compositional elements. Technical accomplishment appears in the seamless integration of mechanical systems within the refined ceiling plane and the precise detailing of window mullions that frame without obstructing the panoramic vista. The furniture arrangement demonstrates understanding of proxemics and conversational groupings while maintaining visual permeability throughout the volume. Viewers might contemplate how the design achieves its sense of tranquility through careful elimination rather than accumulation, inviting reflection on the relationship between spatial generosity and psychological wellbeing.
