About My Home Steak Buffet Restaurant
My Home Steak Far Eastern Store synergizes youthful vitality with immersive design, reimagining the traditional steakhouse as a dynamic social arena. The narrative begins at the entrance, where the letter O in the signage is metamorphosed into a fried egg basketball to spark playfulness. The buffet island is conceived as a youth runway, defined by an orange gradient ceiling and GO mosaic tiles that evoke the momentum of a racetrack. Red wave panels and sports ball lamps define the area, while dynamic light strips capture the pulse of a stadium, perfectly enhancing the Move to Eat spirit.
CHENG HUI HSIN's My Home Steak Buffet Restaurant exemplifies contemporary hospitality design's embrace of bold experiential strategies that transform utilitarian dining infrastructure into memorable spatial theater through chromatic audacity and formal invention, situating this achievement within broader trajectories where commercial interiors increasingly function as branded environments engineering shareable moments and emotional resonance beyond mere functional accommodation, the design demonstrates sophisticated command of environmental psychology principles, deploying warm saturated hues scientifically associated with appetite stimulation, social warmth, and energetic optimism while the sculptural ceiling element establishes immediate visual identity that differentiates the venue within competitive dining markets, the compositional achievement lies in the successful integration of multiple functional and aesthetic demands, the organic ceiling form provides strong graphic identity and spatial definition while concealing mechanical systems and establishing human-scale intimacy within what might otherwise register as an undifferentiated commercial volume, the custom mosaic flooring creates tactile richness and visual interest at ground level, establishing thematic continuity with the ceiling through echoed organic patterning, while the strategic placement of the metallic ribbed column transforms a structural necessity into a sculptural focal point that anchors the composition and provides vertical emphasis, the lighting design exhibits particular accomplishment, demonstrating how illumination functions simultaneously as functional necessity, decorative element, spatial organizer, and brand signature, the LED-outlined ceiling creates an unmistakable visual signature while the systematic rhythm of overhead circular fixtures establishes measured cadence and guides circulation, the material palette balances stimulating chromatic drama with tactile variety and finish diversity that rewards proximate engagement, polished metals catch and multiply ambient light while matte surfaces absorb and stabilize, upholstered elements introduce softness and acoustic absorption tempering the harder reflective finishes elsewhere, thematically the design celebrates abundance, hospitality, and the communal pleasures of shared dining, the generous buffet display with its gleaming serving vessels and attentive heat lamp fixtures suggests plenty and care, while the varied seating configurations accommodate diverse social groupings from intimate couples to larger gatherings, the orange and yellow palette evokes sunshine, warmth, harvest bounty, and appetite, while the theatrical lighting and dramatic formal gestures create an atmosphere of celebration and special occasion that elevates everyday dining into experience, the design arguably participates in lineages extending from midcentury modernism's unabashed color enthusiasm and faith in design's capacity to engineer delight, through postmodern commercial design's embrace of visual spectacle and popular appeal, arriving at contemporary experiential design's sophisticated orchestration of multisensory engagement, what formal restraint and neutral minimalism intentionally avoid, this maximalist approach enthusiastically embraces, creating environments that announce their presence, declare their intentions, and invite participation without apology, how does this unapologetic celebration of visual drama, chromatic intensity, and designed experience reflect evolving expectations for hospitality environments as stages for social performance and personal narrative construction in an increasingly experience-driven economy?

- Production Technology
- My Home Steak Far Eastern Store blends youthful energy with thematic design. The space features a lit "MY HOME STEAK" sign, where the "O" creatively transforms into a fried-egg basketball, sparking appetite and vitality. The buffet island adopts a "youth runway" concept, highlighted by an orange gradient ceiling and mosaic "GO" tiles. Suspended sports-ball lamps and red wave-shaped panels further define the area while maintaining an open flow. Finally, dynamic light strips capture the rhythmic energy of a stadium, perfectly enhancing the "Move to Eat" spirit through visual motion.
- Design Challenge
- Our ethnographic research reimagined budget dining as a social hub. By observing and interviewing Gen Z diners, we explored how nostalgia triggers connection. A key challenge was balancing high-energy "sports" themes with a comfortable dining vibe. We overcame this by using rhythmic lighting and warm palettes to soften industrial elements. Results show that weaving campus memories into space turns meals into shared rituals, shifting business focus from cost to social value and brand loyalty.
- Project Duration
- The project started in October 2021 and finished in April 2025 in Taiwan, Taipei City.
- Operation Flow
- In this project, function extends beyond circulation and efficiency to explore human behavior and interaction. The focus is not just on how people eat, but how space brings them closer. A racetrack buffet layout ensures smooth flow and visual connection, while social, individual, and shared seating zones address different needs. Lighting and music guide behavior where soft light encourages conversation and rhythmic sound energizes the mood. From ergonomics to layout, every detail aims to make interaction natural, turning dining into a social experience shaped by space.
- Research
- This project asks if a restaurant can be more than a place to eat and become a vessel for connection and memory. In a digital era of fragmented interaction, our goal is to use spatial design to revive the culture of gathering around a meal. The concept has three layers where sports energy turns the space into a stage for shared passion, youth nostalgia makes dining a reflection of personal stories, and social media immediacy brings digital behavior into physical space. My Home Steak becomes a social platform where people share emotions, express identity, and create lasting experiences.
- Inspiration
- This project explores if a restaurant can transcend dining to become a vessel for memory. Inspired by the need to revive the culture of gathering, the design integrates three layers: sports energy as a stage for passion, youth nostalgia for personal storytelling, and social media immediacy to bridge digital and physical worlds. "My Home Steak" thus evolves into a social platform where spatial design fosters identity, emotion, and shared experiences beyond the meal.

Design Interview about My Home Steak Buffet Restaurant
"Inspired by the public's growing passion for sports culture, this design merges the cozy, nostalgic charm of a classic local steakhouse with athletic vibes. It’s a space where sports and gastronomy truly connect. Using immersive design elements, we’ve built a brand experience that pulses with youthful energy and dynamic visual rhythm."
The design fosters a dynamic, layered visual effect. Captivating thematic installations invite guests to linger and take photos, enhancing the interaction between consumers and the environment. Consequently, the restaurant transcends its role as a dining venue, evolving into a space for emotional projection and social media engagement. Adaptable to diverse scenarios—including families, group gatherings, and social events—it effectively amplifies the customer’s propensity to capture and share their experience."
Our roadmap centers on converting this international recognition into global market presence. We plan to launch an aggressive global PR campaign, utilizing the A' Design Award platform to capture the attention of international media, potential overseas franchisees, and commercial clients.
