About Musen Spa Club
Musen Spa is a leisure club interior located in Wuxi and covering 1300 square meters. Walls in the service area are finished with large wooden veneers, and carved rubble adds a rough, three-dimensional texture. Warm wood is combined with a cool marble floor. Gauze curtains and silk screens soften the hard stone surfaces, while embedded metal partitions divide the volumes. The bar has a soft curved form in leather and drawn copper wire. A winding arched passage connects the reception hall to the rest area, where scattered ball lights create a quiet setting.
Chuanjin Sun's Musen Spa Club represents a significant achievement in contemporary wellness interior design, synthesizing seemingly oppositional material languages into a harmonious spatial experience that speaks to humanity's enduring desire for sanctuary and renewal. The designer appears to engage with longstanding architectural traditions of the threshold and the sacred passage, translating these archetypal spatial concepts into contemporary hospitality vernacular. Technical accomplishment is evident throughout, from the precise calibration of the one-point perspective that guides visitors toward the luminous azure portal to the sophisticated material choreography that juxtaposes massive rough-hewn stone against smoothly curved timber surfaces. The irregular masonry wall, suggesting ancient construction methods and geological time, enters into productive dialogue with the sweeping organic ceiling form that evokes natural erosion patterns or perhaps the interior of a cave refined into civilized elegance. Particularly noteworthy is the integration of the preserved moss installation, a biophilic element that introduces verdant life into the mineral and metallic palette while creating a contemplative miniature landscape suggesting mountain terrain viewed from aerial perspective. The chromatic strategy demonstrates sophisticated understanding of psychological color effects, deploying warm earth tones to establish grounding comfort while reserving the ethereal blue illumination for the destination portal, thereby encoding the journey from earthly concerns toward transcendent experience into the very architecture. The bronze fireplace surround anchors the composition with its promise of primal warmth and gathering, while stacked firewood introduces craft and preparation into the narrative. One might observe how the reflective dark flooring doubles the visual complexity, creating subtle spatial ambiguity that enhances the dreamlike quality appropriate to wellness environments. What personal meaning might visitors discover in this carefully constructed journey from rustic materiality toward ethereal light?

- Unique Properties
- This case is a leisure club. The service area's walls are made of large wooden veneers, the backgrounds are interwoven with each other, and the carved and uncut rubble are more three-dimensional and rough, the bar breaks the traditional bulky form, the delicate and soft arc, the exquisite route moves nimbly on the soft leather surface and the copper wire drawing materials rely on each other to soften the space, which is particularly advanced under the quiet light.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The project covers a total of 1300 square meters. The interspersed silk screen obscures the spatial order, guides visitors to carry out multi-dimensional interaction in the open rest area, scattered ball lights in the sky, lights up the inner expectations in front of the dead trees reflected in the viewfinder frame, and forgets the walking time.

- Production Technology
- The warm wooden materials and the cold marble ground collide with each other, which is natural. The screen of the gauze curtain softens the hardness of the burning stone. The embedded metal partition cuts through the thick feeling of the mountain stone. The light colored decorations are like the spirits in the mountains.
- Design Challenge
- The reception hall leads to the rest area, which is connected by a long winding cave passage. The passage is covered with silk shamans to form an arched space. The cascading shamans, under the moderate light halo, highlight the flexible and soft atmosphere. The light and shadow interweave to yearn for light embrace, so that people can stop their busy steps and get close to each other and come.
- Project Duration
- The project started in April 2018 in Wuxi and finished in October 2018 in Wuxi.
- Operation Flow
- The asymmetrical space of the water bar area is to find the balance point in the space dimension, which is relatively simple and rich. The space built by geometric blocks connects the wall and the top, and is divided into independent areas, so that the spaces are staggered and echo each other.
- Research
- In the increasingly noisy and impetuous urban life, people are increasingly pursuing the return of nature, free life and noble environment. In their heart, they are dreaming of a pure place to go back to seclusion and escape from the world. In Musen, facing the clean water and leaning against the green mountains, we are one of the best habitats in our heart to remove the flashiness and get close to the nature.
- Inspiration
- The project is located in a quiet field full of artistic flavor and embracing natural scenery. According to the regional characteristics, the designer combines the local culture and historical context in the process of conception. Under the dominant atmosphere of modernism, the designer uses the language of design to create dialogue with space, and then interprets the visual, tactile and spiritual resonance.
