About Modern And Timeless Residence
Modern and Timeless is the interior design of a family villa in Istanbul. The residence has a net indoor area of 475 square meters and is arranged over three levels, with five bedrooms and one living room. The living room has a high ceiling and a gallery void, with a marble fireplace that rises to the full height of the void. Italian ceramics were used in the kitchen and wet areas, and light wooden parquet in the rooms and corridors. All furniture was newly produced for the project. The aim was a simple, comfortable and lasting atmosphere for each family member.
Sakura Architecture's Residence exemplifies the evolution of contemporary domestic space toward specialized entertainment environments that integrate technological infrastructure within architecturally refined frameworks, demonstrating how residential design has adapted to accommodate evolving patterns of media consumption, social gathering, and private leisure while maintaining aesthetic sophistication and material quality. The work situates itself within a broader design trajectory that emerged in the latter twentieth century as audiovisual technology became central to domestic life, prompting designers to develop spatial solutions that accommodate screens, speakers, and associated equipment without compromising the coherence of interior architecture—a challenge that this project addresses through comprehensive millwork integration and chromatic boldness that transforms functional requirements into expressive architectural gesture. The compositional achievement of the space resides in its successful negotiation between symmetrical order and asymmetrical chromatic punctuation, establishing visual stability through bilateral architectural framing while introducing dynamic vitality through the unexpected deployment of saturated yellow upholstery that disrupts potential monotony and creates a memorable focal point for social gathering within an otherwise technology-centered environment. Chromatic sophistication manifests in the confident handling of the deep teal millwork, a hue that reads simultaneously as sophisticated and contemporary while providing optimal visual backdrop for both displayed objects and technological screens, demonstrating understanding of how color temperature and saturation influence spatial perception and programmatic function within residential contexts. The technical execution evident in the crisp millwork detailing, integrated lighting solutions that model surfaces without glare or harsh contrast, and seamless incorporation of audiovisual components within custom cabinetry reveals design facility and craft coordination, suggesting collaborative achievement between designer vision and skilled fabrication that elevates the space beyond conventional media room solutions toward bespoke architectural environment. Thematically, the work explores the contemporary domestic tension between public performance and private retreat, creating a space that serves equally as backdrop for cinematic immersion and as stage for social interaction, where the yellow seating cluster establishes intimate conversation zone while the larger brown sectional provides viewing gallery orientation toward the screen—a spatial hierarchy that accommodates diverse modes of inhabitation within a singular architectural envelope. The material palette demonstrates considered attention to sensory experience beyond pure visual effect: the tactile contrast between smooth lacquered millwork surfaces, soft upholstered textiles, warm burnished leather, and natural wood grain creates haptic variety that rewards physical engagement with the space, suggesting understanding that successful interior environments address the full spectrum of embodied experience rather than privileging optical consumption alone. Art historical resonances emerge in the relationship between this work and mid-twentieth-century design movements that championed integrated domestic environments where architecture, furnishings, and color operated as unified systems—the custom millwork approach recalls precedents from modernist residential architecture where built-in solutions dissolved boundaries between furniture and architecture, while the chromatic boldness evokes both postwar Scandinavian color confidence and 1970s explorations of saturated environmental hue as psychological and spatial tool. The spatial organization invites consideration of how contemporary domestic space increasingly fragments into specialized zones each calibrated to particular activities and technological requirements, moving away from multipurpose rooms toward programmatically specific environments that reflect the diversification of domestic life and the proliferation of media platforms and entertainment modes that structure contemporary leisure time. One might observe how this space negotiates between timeless architectural principles of proportion, material integrity, and spatial order with specifically contemporary functional demands and aesthetic preferences, prompting reflection on what elements of residential design remain constant across historical periods and what aspects necessarily evolve in response to changing technologies, social patterns, and cultural values surrounding domestic comfort and spatial experience.

- Operation Flow
- The living room, overlooking the green space and pool, serves as the heart of the home with its high ceilings and gallery void. The fireplace, designed to warm the entire space, is clad in marble and extends to the full height of the gallery void, seamlessly integrating the seating and dining areas. A mirror above the fireplace enhances the sense of depth. The combination of parquet flooring, a marble fireplace, wall moldings, and modern lighting elements aim to create an elegant and contemporary ambiance. While white tones dominate the interior, select pieces in vibrant colors add a dynamic touch.
Italian ceramics were used on the floors and walls of the bathrooms, with wallpaper applied in certain areas. In children's bathrooms, custom-colored ceramic tiles were incorporated. The winter garden features wooden beams and a suspended wooden fan, enhancing the natural warmth of the space.
The master bedroom, overlooking the front garden, offers a spacious and serene retreat, furnished simply with a bed and wooden nightstands.
One of the most distinctive areas of the home is the "man cave" in the garage, designed as a hobby and relaxation space. Clad entirely in wooden paneling, it features a marble bar counter, custom-designed cabinets, and brass accents, resulting in a sophisticated, timeless, and inviting atmosphere. - Research
