About Maya Pendant Lamp
Maya is a pendant lamp inspired by the jewelry art of ancient Mesoamerica. The metal body has a gold color and the shape of an inverted crescent moon. Both sides are covered with transparent cast glass bearing small geometric ornaments. The many facets refract the light and cast patterns of rays on nearby walls. LED sources on both sides are covered with matte diffusers for soft and even light. The lamp hangs on two wires joined by a decorative cylindrical element. The height is adjustable, and several lamps can form multilevel compositions.
The Maya Pendant Lamp by Alexey Danilin represents a distinguished contribution to contemporary lighting design, embodying the increasingly valued intersection of artisanal craft traditions and sophisticated illumination engineering that characterizes the most thoughtful work in this field today, the fixture's commanding horseshoe silhouette draws upon archetypal forms that have carried symbolic resonance across cultures while reinterpreting these associations through a distinctly modern material sensibility, the designer appears to engage deliberately with the phenomenology of light as a sculptural medium, positioning the illumination source within the concave interior to transform the textured glass surfaces into active participants in light distribution rather than mere passive enclosures, this approach suggests familiarity with both historical glassmaking traditions where artisans developed elaborate surface treatments to enhance optical effects and contemporary understanding of how architectural lighting shapes spatial perception and emotional atmosphere, the technical achievement evident in the pressed or molded glass surface demonstrates considerable material sensitivity, each dimpled facet functioning as a miniature lens that multiplies and softens the internal light source while creating visual texture that rewards sustained examination, the warm brass or bronze hardware elements introduce considered material dialogue, their golden tonality harmonizing with the amber illumination while providing necessary structural and electrical connections with elegant discretion, compositionally the work succeeds in achieving what the finest lighting design aspires toward, the creation of an object that commands aesthetic interest whether illuminated or dormant while fundamentally transforming when activated, viewers might contemplate how the ancient symbolic associations of the horseshoe form as protective talisman and bearer of good fortune find new expression in an object designed to illuminate domestic or commercial spaces with warmth and beauty

- Production Technology
- The lamp is made of metal with LED light sources on both sides. They are covered with matte diffusers in order to create a matte diffuse light. On the front and back side, the lamp is covered with transparent cast glass with small geometric ornaments. Wires are connected by a special element. Thanks to the design of the lamp, spectacular rays of light are created.
- Design Challenge
- After choosing the theme for the project, as well as the silhouette and color combinations of the subject, it was necessary to come up with a concise and thoughtful technical implementation. For this, LED technologies were chosen. Thanks to this, a laconic silhouette was preserved. Fasteners for glass of a simple shape was also made, so as not to distract the viewer from the main image. An element also appeared that connects the wires, which makes the overall image of the lamp more reminiscent of jewelry than a regular lamp.
- Operation Flow
- You can create multilevel compositions from suspended lamps. Each of them creates interesting rays of light. And if several such lamps are combined into compositions, you get interesting asymmetric light effects indoors. An abstract ornament of light rays will appear on the walls. Such lamps can be used in the living room in a residential interior or in spacious rooms of hotels and restaurants. Due to the fact that the height of the lamps can be adjusted.
- Research
- The main task was to study the origins of ancient Mesoamerican cultures. We wanted to study their jewelry art and find a match in the silhouettes of these products, learn about the religious and cultural heritage of this tradition, and also learn about the attitude of these ancient peoples to jewelry and precious materials. We wanted to create an object that, in its silhouette, color scheme and choice of materials, conveyed the spirit of these distinctive cultures.
- Inspiration
- The collection is dedicated to the ancient cultures of Mesoamerica. They were famous for their jewelry art, often made of gold. This metal was not a jewel or currency for them, unlike it was for the Europeans of the time. In some Mesoamerican cultures, ornaments had ritual and religious significance. In addition, they often had a similar silhouette in the form of an inverted crescent moon. That's why this form formed the basis of Maya's collection; and the faceted glass symbolizes the precious stones that adorned the jewelry.
