About Mallarme Children Furniture
Mallarme is a series of children's furniture inspired by insert toys. The parts are joined in a plug-in way, so assembly becomes a form of play. Each supporting structure is made of solid wood in its natural color, cut by machine and polished by hand. A wooden slotted structure connects the wood to parts made by 3D printing. Each printed unit includes storage space for books and toys. The contrast between solid wood and brightly colored plastic creates a childlike look. The furniture is assembled from separate parts, which eases transport.
Wei Jingye / 魏靖野's Mallarme Children Furniture represents a thoughtful contribution to contemporary design discourse surrounding child-centered environments, educational spaces, and the intersection of functional furniture with developmental psychology and aesthetic education, the collection emerges within broader movements recognizing children as sophisticated design consumers deserving objects that honor their cognitive and physical needs while maintaining visual refinement and material integrity rather than condescending simplification or character-based decoration, the four-piece suite demonstrates sophisticated understanding of color theory application, with the triadic harmony of cerulean blue, coral red, and golden yellow creating vibrant yet balanced chromatic relationships that stimulate visual interest without overwhelming sensory processing, this palette choice reflects current research in environmental psychology regarding color's influence on mood, creativity, and cognitive function in learning environments, the consistent formal vocabulary across pieces including rounded rectangular volumes, smooth surface treatment, and exposed natural wood structural supports creates collection coherence while individual pieces maintain distinct functional identities, the shelving unit offers vertical storage encouraging organizational skills and spatial awareness, its multiple horizontal surfaces invite categorization and display behaviors that support cognitive development, the innovative chair design with integrated elevated writing surface addresses the contemporary reality of children engaging with both traditional and digital learning materials, the cantilevered desk arm provides dedicated workspace while the rounded aperture within the seat structure reduces visual and physical mass creating approachable rather than institutional presence, the golden yellow storage pieces demonstrate nesting capability suggesting space efficiency and modular flexibility important in contemporary domestic environments where dedicated children's rooms may serve multiple functions, material choices reflect growing emphasis on sustainability and natural connection with blonde wood elements providing warmth and organic texture against smooth colored surfaces that appear to employ low-VOC finishes appropriate for children's environments, the scale relationships carefully calibrate to child ergonomics while avoiding juvenile styling that might limit the furniture's lifespan as users grow, this attention to longevity reflects design philosophy valuing quality over disposability and objects that mature with their users, the compositional presentation through clean product photography against white ground follows established conventions in contemporary furniture documentation while the inclusion of line-drawn child figure provides crucial context regarding intended use and scale without resorting to photographic staging, this illustration strategy maintains focus on the designed objects themselves while acknowledging their purpose, the overall design approach demonstrates influence from Scandinavian modern traditions valuing simplicity, functionality, and democratic accessibility while incorporating contemporary understanding of child development, environmental consciousness, and aesthetic education, the collection invites consideration of how thoughtfully designed objects shape daily experiences, support developmental milestones, and communicate values regarding creativity, organization, independence, and beauty in everyday life, how might furniture designed for childhood influence lifelong relationships with objects, space, and aesthetic appreciation, and what responsibilities attend designers creating formative environments for young users navigating their expanding worlds.

The supporting part of each product is connected to the 3D printed part by a wooden slotted structure. At the same time, each 3D printed monomer is integrated with a storage function to provide users with storage space.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- 800mm x 750mm x 950mm, 640mm x 550mm x 800mm, Solid wood of the supporting structure is machine-cut and hand polished, and the main part is formed by 3D printing technology, which is assembled and molded, which is convenient for transportation and has a high degree of modeling freedom.

- Seek the combination of detachable structure and multi functionality of furniture, integrate the detachable structure into the function of the furniture itself, and then combine it with the storage function to maximize the storage space while ensuring the comfortable use of the furniture. Paired with bright colors, it makes it more childlike.
- Project Duration
- The design had started in Shenyang in March 2024, completed in Shenyang in June 2024, and displayed in the museum of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang in June in 2024.
