About Iron Ore Center Production Command

This is an old workshop, which was built 50 years ago and was discarded for several years. Now, it is relived from the discarded state, and had been changed to Intelligent Management Center. Iron ore underground tunnel space form enlightenment, which breeds the arch styling of the internal space. He selects the grey of the iron ore underground ironstone as the dominant color. The time tunnel feeling which is created by the linear lighting organically connects the modern with the past, which let the design style of the whole centralized control hall possess non copyable enterprise uniqueness.

Saiwen Liu's Iron Ore Center Production Command emerges from the convergence of contemporary minimalist architecture and experiential spatial design, embodying principles that recall the phenomenological investigations of light and sequence pioneered by masters of atmospheric space. The installation demonstrates exceptional command of perspectival drama, deploying a carefully calibrated progression of identical archway portals that create an almost cinematic sense of infinite recession, inviting contemplation of both physical journey and metaphorical passage. The technical achievement lies in the seamless integration of linear LED illumination within the architectural envelope, where light becomes not merely functional but fundamentally constitutive of spatial experience, transforming what might otherwise register as utilitarian corridor into transcendent threshold space. The monochromatic palette of refined neutral grays establishes visual quietude that amplifies awareness of subtle tonal variations, atmospheric depth, and the gentle warmth emanating from the continuous light strips tracing each portal's perimeter. One observes sophisticated attention to the geometry of transition, where traditional rectangular openings have been transformed through the softening of corners into organic apertures that suggest both biological passage and technological precision, perhaps evoking associations with cellular structures or advanced aerospace engineering. The designer appears to engage with questions of spatial procession and the psychological effects of repeated geometric forms, creating an environment that simultaneously calms through its ordered regularity and stimulates through its suggestion of infinite continuation. This work invites viewers to consider how architectural space shapes consciousness, how light defines boundary and possibility, and how the journey through designed environment might mirror deeper passages of understanding and transformation.

Unique Properties
Daye iron ore has a long exploitation history. we have exploited for over 1700 years until now.The rest mine resources exploitation age limit is less than 10 years. Our enterprise would make use of the long iron ore exploitation history, and convert it to tourism industry. In order to not make the waste due to the repeated investments, when we design the central control hall, we give consideration to exhibition function, that is to meet the requirements of current enterprise central control operation, and also offer a small-scale museum for the future tourism development.
Dimensions & Packaging
Project area: 2373 square meters

Production Technology
To maintain and reinforce on the original building, avoid the resource waste which incurred due to the repeated construction. The building is located on the high temperature region. Preserving the big and tall space of the building would play the role of insulation.
Design Challenge
Design difficult point: 1. The storey height of original building is 15.6 meters. The lower storey height of truss is 11.6 meters. In order to save the energy and reduce the emission, we add transition layer on the top surface of the original building, which reduce the top surface of the hall to 7 meters. 2. This project is currently the first mine intelligent management center of China, so it shall meet the functional needs of current central control center, meanwhile, it shall avoid the interference of visitors to the operation staff. 3. It would be changed into industrial legacy museum after 10 years. So, we shall guarantee that the existing central control function can be preserved, which can also meet the requirements that the needed exhibition space shall be preserved for the future.
Project Duration
Project address: Tieshan District, Huangshi City, Hubei Province, China. This project is started in December of 2020, and completed in May of 2021.
Research
With the development of the society, the land resource is gradually reduced in China. The contradiction between the old building and current peoples’ needs is gradually outstanding. Demolition and construction violently are to a great extent. In China, housing demolition at early time would waste hundred billion yuan. How to utilize the old building is becoming an unavoidable question.
Inspiration
The inspiration form is from the enlightenment of iron ore underground space form, which incubated the arch modelling of the interior space. About the colour, we select the unique gray of iron ore underground ironstone. The feeling of time tunnel which is built by the linear lighting would connect the modern times with the past, let the whole central control hall design flavour to be uncopyable and unique.
