About Hilton Shenzhen World Exhibition Center Business Hotel
Hilton Shenzhen World Exhibition Center is a business hotel interior of 36,600 square meters in Shenzhen Airport New Town. The hotel is connected to the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center. The design draws on local cultures of shipping, exhibition and the ocean. Container and sail motifs appear as alternating blocks, original artworks and curved lines. The lobby is kept minimal to hold large crowds in peak season, while the lounge offers sofa sets and long tables for meetings. The restaurant on the third floor lets guests reach the center from the sky loggia.
Yang Bangsheng's interior design for this distinguished hospitality space represents a masterful synthesis of contemporary luxury aesthetics with timeless architectural principles, creating an environment that elevates the guest experience through carefully orchestrated materiality and spatial drama. The design situates itself within the lineage of grand hotel lobbies that have historically served as theatrical thresholds between the public realm and private sanctuary, yet achieves this grandeur through decidedly contemporary means. The monumental marble wall installation, with its rhythmic stepping pattern, suggests geological stratification translated into architectural form, evoking both the permanence of natural stone and the precision of contemporary fabrication techniques. The designer demonstrates particular sensitivity to the interplay of materials, juxtaposing the cool luminosity of white marble against the warmth of bronze metalwork and rich wood flooring to create thermal and chromatic balance. The suspended ceiling sculpture introduces an unexpected organic element into the otherwise rectilinear composition, perhaps referencing natural phenomena such as crystalline ice formations or delicate botanical structures, thereby softening the architectural formality with biophilic gesture. The furniture arrangement establishes multiple functional zones within the expansive volume without fragmenting the spatial unity, allowing the architecture to read as continuous backdrop while creating intimate human-scaled gathering spaces. The chromatic restraint of the palette, dominated by whites, creams, and warm neutrals with strategic accents of teal and deep bronze, speaks to sophisticated design judgment that values material quality over chromatic complexity. How might visitors experience the transition from exterior urban context into this serene architectural sanctuary, and what memories of refined hospitality might this carefully crafted environment engender?

- Unique Properties
- Hilton Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center is situated in Shenzhen Airport New Town and connected with the world’s largest convention and exhibition center. Based on that, the designer conceives the theme of "carrying on the past and opening a way for future" in combination with local cultures about shipping, exhibition, and the ocean. The result is a new landmark featuring both functionality and aesthetics and a witness to the emergence of the world-class Greater Bay Area.

- Both functionality and aesthetics are valued in the design. Minimal furnishings in the lobby leave more room for crowds during the peak season. The lobby lounge offers sofa sets and long tables to facilitate business meetings or casual gathering. In the restaurant, regionally inspired colors and artworks give guests a deeper experience of local lifestyle. In the ballroom, luxury quality and ceremonial solemnity are highlighted by the pendant lights which draw inspiration from "containers". The concave and convex of furniture and curvaceous lines evoke the rhythm of flowing seawater, injecting a hint of freedom and vitality into the guest room.
Considering that most guests would be exhibitors or visitors, the designer optimized flow lines in the hotel to provide more comfort, higher efficiency, and better support for the exhibition and convention center. For instance, the ADD restaurant is relocated at the third floor so that after having their breakfast, guests can walk to the center directly from the sky loggia beside the lift hall.

- The hotel is connected with the world’s largest "reception hall"- Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center - where international economic and cultural exchanges take place every year. We hope the hotel will be not only a window to urban culture and beauty, but also a bridge for communication and connection.
Although Shenzhen is the most dynamic metropolis in China, it is in lack of historical and cultural profoundness with only four decades of development. Therefore, the pain point in our design was how to explore and define the uniqueness of the city and its culture.
In the cultural exploration process, we found that the most common ethos of Shenzhen is pioneering and innovative urban spirit, which is in line with the owner’s corporate culture. By further including the cultures about shipping, exhibition and the ocean related to the owner’s business scope, we proposed the design theme of "carrying on the past and opening a way for future". Cultural elements like containers and sails are interpreted through alternatively displayed blocks, original artworks, and curved lines to build a modern and magnificent international hotel. - Project Duration
- The project started in 2018 in Shenzhen and finished in February 2021 in Shenzhen.
