About Gather Residence

Gather is a five-story family residence in Taiwan, covering 1,256.2 square meters with nine suites. The layout serves an extended family of ten. Social areas occupy the first floor, while private suites fill the upper levels. A seven-meter-high stone wall anchors the double-height living room. Curved ceiling light bands link the living and dining areas, and a ginkgo-leaf chandelier marks the dining table. Stone with blue-green veins is the main material, softened by wood veneer panels and solid wood furniture. Japanese mineral wall coatings help regulate moisture.

Gather Residence by Xiangyee Interior Design exemplifies the contemporary pursuit of spatial grandeur tempered by material restraint, a composition that speaks to enduring traditions of domestic architecture where the threshold between interior sanctuary and natural world dissolves into contemplative unity. The work demonstrates remarkable command of vertical proportion, employing the double-height void as both dramatic gesture and functional connector between domestic realms while the bronze-clad horizontal beam introduces structural articulation that prevents the tall space from overwhelming human scale. The material selection reveals sophisticated understanding of chromatic temperature relationships, warm metallic accents in bronze and copper tones providing essential counterbalance to the cool gray textiles and neutral stone surfaces that might otherwise read as austere. Particularly accomplished passages emerge in the treatment of the garden view as framed living artwork, the sculptural pine specimens suggesting affinities with traditional contemplative garden design while maintaining thoroughly contemporary sensibility in their precise placement and relationship to architecture. The furniture arrangement demonstrates classical compositional principles translated into modern domestic context, symmetrical organization creating ceremonial formality appropriate to the space's monumental proportions while intimate seating clusters preserve human-scale gathering opportunities. The layered transparency achieved through sheer curtains, glass walls, and the glimpsed mezzanine level creates remarkable spatial complexity within seemingly simple geometric framework, inviting extended visual exploration across multiple depth planes. One might consider how this work addresses the perennial challenge of creating spaces that feel simultaneously expansive and intimate, public in their grandeur yet deeply personal in their capacity to frame daily domestic ritual within architectural poetry.

Unique Properties
The seven-meter-high living room TV wall, crafted from large-scale stone panels, anchors the social area and conveys grandeur. Double-height space extends sightlines to courtyard greenery, while curved ceiling light bands link living and dining areas for natural flow. A ginkgo-leaf chandelier symbolizes longevity and unity. Private suites reflect individual tastes yet maintain cohesion through consistent lighting, curves, and proportion, balancing unity and diversity.
Dimensions & Packaging
The five-story residence spans 1,256.2 m2 with nine suites. The first floor hosts social areas-foyer, living, dining, and tea lounge-with separate reception zones to protect family privacy. The second floor contains the primary bedrooms, including a grand master suite integrating living, sleeping, and dressing spaces. The third and fourth floors house private suites for other family members, maintaining independence while unified through coherent circulation.

Production Technology
Stone serves as the main material, with blue-green veins, crystalline striations, and marble inlay creating layered depth. Metal accents are restrained, avoiding ostentation. Walls feature Japanese mineral coatings that regulate moisture while offering subtle texture. Warmth is added through wood veneer panels and solid wood furnishings, balancing the cool precision of minerals with tactile, emotional comfort.
Design Challenge
The project faced asymmetrical structural constraints in the double-height living room, with the TV wall off-center. To resolve this, designers employed an 'offset axis' strategy, aligning the TV and main chandelier to redefine the spatial center. Asymmetrical stone inlays and adjusted cabinetry balanced the volume, turning structural limitations into a deliberate and harmonious design feature.
Project Duration
The project finished in 2025 in Taiwan.
Operation Flow
After moving in, the homeowners described the space as 'suited for long stays.' Intuitive zoning and smooth circulation contribute significantly to comfort. Even when all family members return simultaneously, the house never feels crowded. The double-height living-dining area has become the most frequently used domain, accommodating both daily meals and festive gatherings. Abundant daylight and ventilation maintain comfort for extended periods, encouraging family members to linger and interact, an outcome most affirmed by the residents.
Research
'Gather,' a 1,256.2 m2 residence for ten, balances collective cohesion and individual privacy. Modern minimalism blends with refined luxury across generations. A seven-meter marble feature wall anchors the social area, while curved ceilings and lighting guide interaction between living and dining spaces. Private suites are highly customized, and sustainable strategies, including glazing, setbacks, and environmental optimization, ensure adaptability and long-term livability.
Inspiration
For a ten-member extended family, the design prioritizes precision and subtle luxury over overt symbolism. Centered on the theme of 'gather,' the layout balances togetherness and privacy, with careful attention to massing, scale, and circulation. Starting from modern minimalism, refined materials and understated details create a timeless, mature aesthetic that harmonizes generational preferences while supporting natural convergence and independent movement within the shared home.
