About Flowing Art Corporate Headquarters Office

Flowing Art is a corporate headquarters office located in Shanghai. The interior is organized into four areas: a work area, a reception area, meeting and multifunctional rooms, and a leisure and social zone. Smooth curves and original artworks blur spatial boundaries and support an open and interactive atmosphere. Materials include shadow wood veneer, ripple-patterned jade stone, antique bronze stainless steel, and wood-plastic composite bamboo charcoal wall panels. Furniture such as the butterfly desk is flexible, so the layout can be adjusted as workplace needs change.

Flowing Art Corporate Headquarters Office by Kris Lin exemplifies the continued evolution of parametric design principles within contemporary commercial architecture, situating this work within a broader trajectory of spatial practices that seek to dissolve the rigid orthogonal boundaries traditionally defining corporate environments in favor of fluid, biomorphic geometries that suggest organic processes of growth, flow, and continuous transformation. The design demonstrates remarkable command of volumetric manipulation, employing a dropped ceiling element of warm taupe that creates intimate scale while its curvilinear perimeter, articulated through multiple parallel bands of integrated illumination, establishes a dynamic visual rhythm that guides occupant experience through the space with almost choreographic intentionality. The material vocabulary achieves sophisticated balance between the geological authenticity of veined natural stone surfaces and the precision of contemporary fabrication techniques evident in the seamless curved wall panels and flush-integrated lighting systems, this dialogue between natural and manufactured suggesting an aspirational synthesis wherein technological achievement serves to reveal rather than obscure material beauty. The chromatic restraint operating within warm neutrals and cool greys creates a contemplative atmosphere of refined professionalism while avoiding the sterility that often characterizes corporate interiors, the subtle temperature variations across surfaces generating visual interest through nuanced tonal relationships rather than chromatic contrast. The illuminated floor channels echo traditional concepts of pathways and thresholds translated into contemporary luminous form, potentially referencing the symbolic significance of entry sequences in architectural tradition while reimagining these conventions through technological means. The centralized corporate emblem, positioned against the natural stone backdrop and reflected in the polished floor surface, achieves integration within the architectural composition rather than appearing as applied afterthought, suggesting thoughtful consideration of how identity expression and spatial design might achieve unified expression. One might contemplate how such environments shape not merely functional accommodation but the experiential and psychological dimensions of work itself.

Production Technology
The design prioritizes sustainability by selecting durable, eco-friendly materials like shadow wood veneer, ripple-patterned jade stone, and antique bronze stainless steel, balancing aesthetics with resource conservation. Office furniture, including the butterfly desk, features flexible designs made from sustainable materials such as wood and recyclable plastics, enabling future space adjustments to adapt to evolving workplace needs.
Design Challenge
In this design project, the biggest challenge was to break through the limitations of traditional office spaces and create an environment that is both artistic and flexible. Discarded fixed layouts to provide an open and interactive space, while addressing the diverse needs of both employees and visitors. By utilizing the fluidity and inclusivity of curves, we crafted an office space with an artistic atmosphere, integrating original artworks to establish a new realm for modern office environments.
Project Duration
The project started in October 2023 in Shanghai and finished in September 2024 in Shanghai.
Operation Flow
This design creates an interactive, flexible office space that blends art and functionality, moving beyond traditional office norms. Adjustable layouts and furniture foster employee and visitor collaboration, while flowing curves and artwork blur conventional boundaries. The space's flexibility and sustainable design allow it to adapt over time, enhancing creativity, teamwork, and efficiency—surpassing the limitations of fixed office environments.
Research
On the business level, it helps enterprises enhance work efficiency and innovation capabilities by boosting employees' creativity and collaboration, thereby strengthening the company's competitiveness.
On the design level, this flexible, interactive, and art-integrated office space model breaks through traditional design thinking, establishes new design standards, and demonstrates how innovative design can improve work experience and spatial value, setting a benchmark for future office environments.
Inspiration
Concept:
The design inspiration comes from the fusion of architectural language and art, with the theme "Flowing Art." Through smooth curves and high-quality artworks, it showcases the intersection of technology and creativity. The artworks are strategically placed to blur the boundaries of space, creating a more open and interactive environment. This breaks the stereotypical image of traditional offices, enhancing the overall user experience and stimulating creativity and collaboration.
