About Five Samurai Digital Mural Painting

Five Samurai is a digital mural painting created for a Japanese restaurant. The artwork shows five samurai figures in calm standing poses, without weapons, so that references to war are avoided. Snow and golden autumn leaves surround the figures and suggest quiet beauty and the passing of time. The painting was made with digital painting software and printed for a wall measuring 7253 mm in width and 2228 mm in height. The figures are placed in the central area to suit the uneven wall surface. The aim is to let guests sense the atmosphere of ancient Japan while dining.

Inspiration
This is a piece of art based on a concept from the name of a restaurant - "Five Samurai". The image of the Samurai, a classic Japanese warrior, is presented with a strong sense of the polarised and contradictory role in the country’s traditional culture. It implies a significant vision of power and royalty, brutality and elegance, irrationality and total obedience. The sternly presence of the samurais in the pale beauty of snow outlines the sad reality of their tragic life. The golden colour leaves in the autumn have a declining sentiment, which has successfully illustrated the short and brief glory of samurais.
