About Eternal Center Residential
Eternal Center is a residential interior design located in Hangzhou, China. The project uses an elevated platform, named the Floating Island, to optimize space within a dense urban core. Raising the living area creates openness, privacy and wide views. Local cultural references are combined with Western decorative elements in a calm, modern approach. Integrated systems manage fresh air, humidity, air filtration and sound insulation. A smart home system allows control of temperature, humidity and air quality. The interior covers 472 square meters.
If Design's Eternal Center Residential represents a distinguished contribution to contemporary residential interior design, demonstrating how classical architectural principles may be thoughtfully reinterpreted through a modernist lens while maintaining profound spatial poetry and material refinement. The work engages with longstanding traditions of ceremonial domestic architecture—the double-height salon, the piano nobile, the articulated threshold—yet translates these historical conventions into a vocabulary suited to contemporary living patterns and aesthetic sensibilities. The compositional strategy employs bilateral symmetry as its governing principle, establishing a central axis that draws the eye upward through carefully orchestrated vertical zones, each contributing distinct spatial character while maintaining harmonic unity with the whole. Particularly noteworthy is the treatment of the upper register, where curved biomorphic forms in warm cognac tones engage in productive tension with vertical ribbed elements suggesting classical fluting, creating a dialogue between organic and geometric, historical and contemporary. The chromatic restraint demonstrated throughout—limiting the palette to warm neutrals while allowing material textures to provide visual interest—reflects sophisticated understanding of how color serves spatial perception, permitting architectural form rather than chromatic complexity to command attention. The integration of sculptural elements, including what appears as classical figural fragments, positions the space within broader cultural conversations about heritage, continuity, and the enduring human impulse toward artistic expression within domestic environments. One might observe how the threshold portals, framed in dark material against luminous walls, function simultaneously as spatial dividers and visual frames, inviting movement while suggesting ceremonial passage between zones of differing character. The viewer is invited to consider how contemporary design might honor architectural traditions while serving present needs, and how spatial generosity contributes to experiences of domestic sanctuary and contemplative dwelling.
