About D M Residence Residential Interior

This integrated area encompasses a spacious living room, a dining room and an elegant kitchen ingeniosuly conceived for maximum storage. The loose furniture which conform both the living and the dining areas add a very relaxed look to this project, while slatted panels which disguise all the cabinets used for storage build a clean contemporary background. Spared from excessive hardware while still maintaining all products, objects and memorabilia at hand, this kitchen feels more like a stylish bar around which friends and family can enjoy life's best moments.

Unique Properties
This space integrates a living room, a dining room and a kitchen. For maximum storage and a clean visual style, all the cabinets were hidden inside slatted panels (every part of the slatted panels in this design actually open and can be used for storage). As a result of this decision, the kitchen, which is in fact the functional kitchen of the house, was free from excessive furniture, and could be designed as a stylish bar.
Dimensions & Packaging

Production Technology
The space was built from scratch, using light steel structures, as an expansion to an existing apartment. National brazilian brands and materials were preferred: the furniture, carpet, tiling, cabinets and marble.
Design Challenge
The main challenges: working with lightweight structure in a limited structural context; conceiving the details of the slatted cabinets so as they look entirely as a panel, from start to end and from floor to ceiling.
Project Duration
The project started in January 2018. The interiors were started in September 2018 and finished in December 2018.
Operation Flow
This is an open concept architecture, focusing on making daily routines easy and comfortable while keeping things organized and stylish.
Research
One of the challenges of this project was to build over a structure with limited points of support. This is why the space has no pillars, as all of them are located at the borders, where the original structure can be found. Every material had to be calculated not to overload the structure. Aside from that, the clients had an extensive memorabilia. To fully accomodate these personal belongings while still maintaining a clean visual style, it was mandatory to find a solution to maximize storage. That's why we conceived the slatted panels which are, in fact, cabinets that hide and organize all the objects, hardwares and materials.
Inspiration
The main purpose of this design was to create a cozy yet elegant space for the daily life of the family. The highlits are the use of natural regional white marble, the solution of the cabinets (hidden behind the slatted panels) and the overall cleanliness of the architecture, which allows the apropriation of the space by the owners through the use of their personal belongings to give significance to each corner.

Design Interview about D M Residence Residential Interior

This design is an expansion of an existing apartment. A whole new space was built over a terrace to accommodate the social spaces of the residence. The main idea was to create a functional space where the family could spend the days together and also to store all the memorabilia.

I wanted to achieve a meaningful space, where memories would be created and kept as a treasure in the future of each family member.

I hope the family has the best moments in this award winning design.

Circa 1 year, since the inicial concepts until the finished result.

It was a personal decision of mine to design this apartment this way. The clients were charmed by the project and quickly identified themselves with the concept.

No. It was very personalized.

A couple with one child.

The balance between a minimalist background and a maximalist decor.

The name of this design stands for the panels with hidden cabinets that organize all the storage and equipments behind them.

Sketchup and CAD softwares.

This space was built over na existing terrace. This means that we had serious limitations about the kind of structure, weight, materials that would be selected. Another important aspect is the balance between a minimalist background and a maximalist decoration.

We had to collaborate with engineers specialized in concrete structures and with metal structures. To build over an existing structure was a big challenge!

Technology was important to overcome the structural challenges of building over an existing structure. Also, all the interior elements are themselves highly technological. So we could say that technology is in every aspect of an architectural project or an interior design.

This space was built over na existing terrace. This means that we had serious limitations about the kind of structure, weight, materials that would be selected.

I thought it had the right combination of aspects to be relevant in an international competition.
