About Casselden Lobby Banquette Seating
The building design concept was to provide a unique but flexible work/leisure environment with Banquette seating, communal benches and loose furniture setting a new standard in customer experience creating an urban oasis for casual and organised meetings amidst textural elements, earthy tones, curated art, specialised lighting displays and greenery, blending the outdoor experience with internal spaces. Sustainability was a key factor in the refurbishment of the lobby through the retention of existing flooring and wall finishes that reflected the botanic landscape.

- Unique Properties
- The fitout consisted of Booth style Banquette seats which were designed to follow the botanic landscape within the lobby, creating an urban oasis for casual and organised meetings.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The upholstered seats were manufactured with Australian hardwoods to the carcase. The carcase frames were then screw fixed to the polished concrete floor. The seat cushions were adhered to the carcase frames by commercial Velcro. The tapered rear cushions were fixed to the planter box with French cleats for easy removal. The sculpted plinths were manufactured in various lengths, numbered accordingly and then screw fixed to the frame on site. The total meterage of seats exceeds 50 lineal metres.

- Production Technology
- The design utilises both a hard memory foam with a softer outer core wrapped in Dacron. This was then covered in commercial grade vinyl that will endure the most stringent wear and tear. All items used were fire rated as well as recyclable.
- Design Challenge
- The hardest challenge was to ensure that the sculptured plinths matched up to both 90-degree right angles as well as the curved corners. This was overcome by prototyping and making adjustments to the final design.
- Project Duration
- The project required several months to manufacture in the factory and approximately 4 weeks to install over several areas within the ground floor location.
- Operation Flow
- The Banquettes were designed with a commercial green vinyl to match the botanical theme. To enhance the design a sculptured solid timber plinth was added along with LED down lighting.
- Research
- The ground floor foyer project involved the refurbishment of the existing area including larger glazed windows, stone flooring, as well as carpeted areas, paneled interior walls along with a green wall which utilises recycled water. With the Client looking at Green Star aspirations, we took on board the use of recyclable materials which we incorporated into our design so as to minimise our carbon footprint.
- Inspiration
- To set a new standard in customer experience with the addition of numerous seating spaces such as executive lounges, conference and meeting rooms and cafe areas.

Our skilled Cabinet Makers and Upholsterers, helped to bring this project to life.
The hardest challenge was to ensure that the sculpted plinths matched the ninety-degree corners as well as the curved radius ends of the seats.
We thought that this particular project was worthy enough to be included in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design Sector of the Award.
