About Beauty United Space Salon

Beauty United Space is a hair and beauty salon located in Wuhan, China. The interior covers about 220 square meters and brings haircut, styling and makeup services together in one place. The main colors of the brand identity divide the areas and create strong color contrasts. Abstract elements of a bus are used as a theme throughout the space. Materials include prefabricated terrazzo panels, cement tiles, mirrored and brushed stainless steel and molded plastic chairs. Interactive areas and product displays help visitors understand the brand.

John Sun and Renee Zhu's Beauty United Space Salon represents a sophisticated intervention within contemporary experiential retail design, drawing upon the visual and spatial vocabulary of public transportation infrastructure to reconceptualize the traditional salon environment as a site of journey and transformation. The designers demonstrate remarkable chromatic confidence in their deployment of a saturated complementary palette, positioning cool turquoise against warm vermillion-orange in a manner that generates visual energy while maintaining spatial coherence through the mediating presence of neutral gray and white surfaces. The compositional strategy reveals careful attention to sequential spatial experience, with the corridor functioning simultaneously as circulation spine and visual axis, guiding occupants through distinct functional zones differentiated by color, form, and material treatment. Technical accomplishment is evident in the precision of the steel framework construction, the seamless integration of utilitarian elements such as overhead storage and bench seating, and the sculptural confidence of the curved enclosure whose barrel-vault profile introduces organic counterpoint to the prevailing orthogonal geometry. The exposed ceiling treatment, rather than concealing mechanical infrastructure, celebrates the authentic material character of the space while establishing visual dialogue with the deliberately industrial aesthetic of the turquoise framework below. Tropical plant specimens introduce biophilic elements that soften the hard-surface dominance while suggesting oasis and retreat within the urban context. The wayfinding graphics, including dimensional typography and triangular directional indicators, extend the transportation metaphor while demonstrating sophisticated understanding of environmental graphic design principles. Visitors might contemplate how the transformation of mundane waiting into anticipated journey mirrors the salon's core promise of personal metamorphosis and renewed self-presentation.

Design Challenge
The designers hoped to create a more comfortable way to show the DNA of BUS by utilizing and developing bus elements in the commercial space with beauty fatigue, rather than just arranging an carriage in a concrete way. And they selected materials within limited types to express the design concept.
Project Duration
The project started in March 2019 and finished in December 2019, and was located in 2F, Hanjie Wanda Plaza, Wuhan, Hubei, China.
Operation Flow
B.U.S hopes to give an one-stop solution about haircut, modeling and makeup for the young people. Based on that, the designers came up with the design concept that customers would get a "ticket key" when they enter BUS, and after the modeling they can take photos uploading to the Cloud, and get the photo when paying the cash. The whole process can improve the user experience of "taking the bus" and makes the consumption action more interesting.
Research
Taken "Bus" as the concept, the design creates a customer-friendly brand story that they can easily understand. At the same time, simple references are used to bridge customers and the brand. Besides, apart from pronouncing and remembering easily, the brand name has other advantages: the starting point of topics and the guiding direction of marketing and others.
Inspiration
The brand name is derived from its brand positioning: a birthplace of fashionable life. It aims to invite guests to discuss together the magic and secret of being beautiful, from hairstyle, makeup to life. "B.U.S Hair and Beauty Salon" takes "BUS" as the carrier to advertise its key values: economical, convenient and customer-friendly, which are essential elements of daily life. The design uses abstract elements of bus to bring about more topics.
