About Aprol Bar

Aprol is a bar located on the top floor of a five-story building in the historical center of Moscow. The interior is designed in a pop art style, with orange as the main color, neon lighting, plants and large art objects. A six meter statue of David, printed in parts on a 3D printer, floats under the ceiling and is visible from outside. Six steam fireplaces are set into the low bar counter, so guests reach through the flames to take a glass. A panoramic window brings in daylight and opens a view of the old city.

Aprol Bar by Valery Lizunov represents a remarkable achievement in contemporary hospitality design that synthesizes seemingly disparate aesthetic vocabularies into a cohesive and arresting spatial experience, positioning itself within a lineage of theatrical interior environments that draw upon historical grandeur while embracing industrial authenticity and contemporary sensibilities, the space appears to engage with traditions of baroque drama and neoclassical idealism through the commanding presence of the inverted sculptural figure, which may reference classical anatomical studies and heroic figuration while subverting expectations through its radical repositioning, this inversion could suggest themes of transcendence, transformation, or the dissolution of conventional hierarchies between high art and commercial space, the technical accomplishment evident in the lighting design demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how chromatic temperature shapes emotional experience, with the warm amber zones creating intimacy and the cool blue passages introducing mystery and depth, the material palette celebrates honest expression of industrial elements through exposed ceiling systems painted in energetic vermillion while simultaneously accommodating refined decorative gestures through carefully curated vessel arrangements and botanical installations, the compositional intelligence reveals itself in the strong perspectival thrust that draws visitors deeper into the space while the vertical sculptural intervention arrests forward momentum and demands contemplation, one might consider how this environment invites guests to experience hospitality as a form of cultural participation, where dining and socializing occur within a curated artistic context that elevates quotidian activities into memorable encounters with beauty and conceptual richness.

All the tables are custom made from concrete and marble. Some decorative elements as door handles made in brass. The bar facade is made of stainless steel.
Design Challenge
The space is full of details, every element was hand made. A lot of sculpture elements. THe location was nice, but the bar is located on the fifth floor that is difficult for operation. The huge statue is clearly visible from the outside and attracts people. The main color of the bar is orange and the name is in association with famous drink. In russia Aperol is synonym of summer.
Project Duration
The project was started in January of 2019 and finished in June 2019.

The bar was highly rated among the Russian and the international interior media.
Operation Flow
Unexpected decisions are a kind of visiting card of the project. Steam fireplaces located along the bar became part of the performance: the guest needs to put his hand through the fire to take a glass. The bar was made slightly understated so that it was more convenient for visitors to communicate with the bartenders and see everything that was happening on the other side.
Research
The space inside is designed in the style of pop art. A lot of plants, neon, a mix of different colors and large art objects transfer us to the bright picture of Warhol. The summer theme is supported by its main attributes striped mattresses on the windowsills and a beach area with sunbeds behind the DJ. Inclusions of Asian design are present also in the menu.Such a rich interior required a wow effect. It was ensured with a floating statue of David under the ceiling. The famous sculpture was given the movement of a swimmer, but at the same time retained its recognizable plasticity.
Inspiration
Eternal summer with a lot of fun and dancing, this is how you can describe the atmosphere of the new Moscow Aprol bar on Bolshaya Tatarskaya street. The bright name is the basic part of the concept. The main drink on the menu is the popular summer aperitif. Moreover, knowledgeable party goers come here for authors cuisine, a trendy location in Instagram stories and a solar vibe, which Archpoint architects so carefully created.
