Interpreting Discomfort 유화 연작 소개

《불편함의 해석(Interpreting Discomfort)》은 개인의 공간과 사회적 압박을 다룬 유화 연작이다. 작품들은 일상 속 불편한 순간을 재현한 연출된 장면 속에서 손과 눈을 보여준다. 배려의 행동은 사람들을 가깝게 만들지만, 지나친 관심은 오히려 불편함을 낳기도 한다. 이 회화들은 두 가지 기법을 결합한다. 간접 화법은 흑백의 밑칠 층을 쌓은 뒤 그 위에 색을 글레이징하는 방식이며, 직접 화법은 혼합한 색을 화면에 곧바로 올리는 방식이다. 연작은 캔버스와 목판에 유채로 제작되었으며, 갤러리에서 대화의 출발점으로 전시된다.

고유 특성: Many times “caring” actions will bring people closer together, but it can also make people uncomfortable with too much attention. In this series of works, she discuss how much attention is too much? How is this feeling of discomfort formed? For the attention given by others, we all want to classify it as concern, but too much attention may become a kind of pressure. She use this series of works to discuss with the viewer the comfortable distance of interaction between people.

생산 기술: She examined the difference between indirect painting and direct painting, and used both of them in the picture. The indirect painting methods belongs to the technique of classic realistic oil painting, which is completed in black and white and then glaze color on top. Direct painting is the method of contemporary painting, which directly superimposes the adjusted color on the canvas.

디자인 과제: Ideation and the atmosphere is the hardest part of this project. In the presentation of the picture, the shape of the hands must be placed harmoniously in the picture without losing the beauty.
연구: The first thing is to study how to create an uncomfortable atmosphere. Eyes and hands are good parts for expressing emotions. The unnatural feeling of combining these two makes the picture more attractive and intriguing.
영감: The images she make for this project are staged recreations of her own experience, and she believe that it is also the experience of many other people. This series deals with issues of discomfort and stress in everyday life. We all care about how others view us, this has become the same as our invisible living standards.
프로젝트 기간: The project began in San Francisco in 2020. Participated in Contemporary Venice 2021, Italy and Small Works 2021, New York.
운영 흐름: It will be displayed in a gallery, and these paintings can be a tool for conversation.
