Designer of the Day Interview

21 June 2023

It has been 23 years since entering the interior design industry in 1999. In 2019, MU.YU.Interior Design Co,Ltd was established, mainly engaged in the design of private residences and commercial spaces.

I liked painting since I was a child, and studied advertising design in high school. At that time, a female teacher was engaged in interior design. I thought it would be cool to be able to actually complete the design concept, so interior design became the goal I started to pursue. The completion of each design case and the satisfaction of customers are the cornerstones for me, and I will move forward step by step more steadily. I always firmly believe that interior design is my lifelong path.

We pay more attention to the design that meets the needs of users and can bring good changes to their lives, rather than designing for form. When designing, I am used to draw the concept in a sketchbook first, and use computer-aided rendering models after the planning and design are finalized. Natural, warm and organic style is the design concept we want to present. Mainly use natural materials to relieve the pressure of modern life.

The design process is a fusion of emotions. From the expectation of the design concept, the calm or irritability in the construction drawing stage to the inspire when the final project is completed. This is a necessary process of design, and every experience will be converted into motivation to improve oneself.

My future will continue to improve in interior design, and I dream of designing exclusive furniture for interior spaces.

Dare to try. Involved in more design fields and travel.

I often read design articles to understand design trends. But not follow blindly. My design will take the customer's needs as the main goal.

It can meet the needs and make users satisfied, feel at ease and improve convenience, which is a good design.

Design has always been able to break through.

Sunmoon Tea Shop is my most special work so far. These loess bricks have a history of 70 years and are also the main building materials preserved in this case. I hope that in the future there will be more traditional craftsmanship and materials preserved through design.

Kengo Kuma, his works feel lighter but more shock-resistant, and integrate nature and natural building materials, full of Japanese aesthetics.

A good working partner needs to have a common design philosophy and empathy.

I once went to remote villages to build book houses for children of aboriginal tribes, providing them with more opportunities to read. This small help can bring about positive changes for them. In the future, I hope to participate in activities that benefit rural tribes.

Participating in the A' Design International Award is a good experience for designers. They can learn about different design concepts in international cultures and learn to express their own design ideas.

Design Interview

21 June 2023 · Sunmoon Il Negozio Di Tè

This project is converted from a 70-year-old storage room. These loess bricks have a history of 70 years and are also the main building materials preserved in this case. Carefully keep the loess bricks cut from the hole, and designed the bar counter facade, also that countertop use solid wood to increase the warmth of the space. The designer hope to preserve the traces of times from the exterior to the interior.

The loess brick is a special material for this case. Because it is difficult to make again, I want to use this material to represent the idea of inheritance from ancient times to the present.

I hope that in the future, there will be more traditional craftsmanship and materials, which can be preserved through design.

The concept took about a month to design.

For buildings with old structures, most of them tend to be demolished and rebuilt when the design is changed. In order to preserve the characteristic buildings, there was design inspiration.

This design project is a private commission, so it will not be produced or leased out.

This design case is the place where the client has lived since childhood, and inspired to change the design of this building for passing on to the next generation.

The EASE INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD team learned to design from the perspective of caring for the land and being environmentally friendly, allowing nature to return to the city and building a suitable residence.

The main target is local residents and tourists.

Because it is located in the black tea production area and is an old house with a history of 70 years, the overall environment and design style are relatively rare in urban areas.

The crops of the sun and the moon are the crystallization of farmers, and it is also the story of two classmates, one urban child and the other country child. The ideal of rural children is to do something for their hometown, while urban children want to create different fields, so Sun Moon Crop was born.

Most of them use hand drawing, AutoCad and SketchUp.

Retain existing roof tiles and loess bricks and integrated with modern materials.
Parts of the solid wood table is spliced with the existing wooden beams to make the new one.

The structural modification project of this case was completed in cooperation with MuYue Construction Co., Ltd., together with a professional team of metal and clay works.

Structural support is the main technical axis of this case, without which the design cannot be achieved.

Based on traditional building materials, it is integrated into the local tea culture.

Because the structure of the building was old and weak, the structure was reinforced with H-beams when a hole was dug in the wall between the two warehouses.

Fujian-style old houses are a distinctive form of architecture in Taiwan. We hope to use this design to share Taiwanese-style architecture with the world.

It is a rare design experience to keep the old architectural features and optimize the design. I hope that I can keep my original intention in the future design journey.

Gardener.

For me, design is an integral part of listening, observing and integrating. It is the result of a series of dismantling, reorganization and simplification.

Designers use their professionalism and aesthetic awareness to enhance the public's design awareness, arouse the public's awareness from daily life to public places, and bring better convenience or services through design changes. This is a more important thing for the social environment.

Virtual reality is rapidly changing the entire design environment.

The design should be simplified the future.

It is difficult to define when design work is complete. Every project is unique and design times vary.

Usually I am used to draw the concept on the sketchbook first, then repeatedly disassemble the combined space, and then draw the material and color. Sometimes a 3D simulated scene is used to complete the case.

Making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity.

I think design sets the trends.

Anything can happen.

Designer Interview

I graduated from Tainan University of Technology, Taiwan. I have been interested in drawing since I was a child. When I was studying, I met a teacher who was engaged in interior design. At that time, I felt that good design can make a huge difference in life. I decided to become an interior designer.

MuYu Interior Design Co., Ltd. was established in 2019.
Downshifting (lifestyle), also known as simple living, is what we design for.
In order to integrate the customer's imagination of the future into the design, we hope to simplify what they want through design, advocate the use of natural materials for construction, and let people's body and mind stay and rest in this space.

For me, design is an integral part of listening, observing and integrating. It is the result of a series of dismantling, reorganization and simplification.

Commercial space design can be more bold and unconstrained in conception. This is the type of design I want to do.

Furniture design is my favorite. In addition to providing functional needs, it can also add artistry to the space.

It is a Zen space that sells Buddhist cultural relics, and it is a complex space integrating sales, coffee shop and meditation.

Wood and metal are my preferred materials. It can add a gritty yet warm vibe.

In the process of discussing with customers, it is easier to stimulate creativity through the resonance of recognition.

We pay more attention to the design that meets the needs of users and can bring good changes to their lives, rather than designing for form.

For most of the designs, I will let go of my emotions first, without prejudice. Without emotions, you are open to more thoughts.

I will be very grateful when the design is realized. The completion of a design requires the cooperation and dedication of the team, which is something to be grateful for.

The right time, place and people.

Design is neither good nor bad. Applicable and non-applicable only. A good design can meet the needs, make users satisfied and relieved, and improve convenience.

September 16, 2022, iF Taipei Design Salon,Taiwan,.Looking forward to winning again in the next 3-5 years.

In the process of discussing with customers, get inspiration from their imagination of life.

Natural, warm and organic style is the design concept we want to present. Predominantly natural materials are used to relieve the stress of modern life.

I live in Taiwan. 「Feng Shui」 is a unique custom in Asia, which has certain restrictions on design, and needs to meet the needs of customers through good design integration.

Through communication, convey the design concept. Cooperate through running-in and coordination.

Only companies that agree with the designer's ideas rather than interests can resonate with the designer.

Usually I am used to draw the concept on the sketchbook first, then repeatedly disassemble the combined space, and then draw the material and color. Sometimes a 3D simulated scene is used to complete the case.

Meditate in the morning and take a walk in the garden after get off work to feel the sunshine and breeze.

Try the possibility of any material, break through the original framework, and maintain the design value without reducing the price.

Positive aspects: You can get in touch with various industries in various ways and expand your life.
Cons: The design often doesn't fit the budget, which is a dilemma.

Listen to requirements and create integration.

In addition to the necessary sense of beauty, the designer is also a discoverer. He must discover more beauty and explore more possibilities for customers.

Most use Freehand, AutoCad and SketchUp.

In the stage of design thinking, the time is not limited and can be adjusted according to inspiration.
In the drawing stage, it is necessary to arrange and adjust the design progress according to the time progress of the case.

It is difficult to define when design work is complete. Every project is unique and design times vary.

Where do you get your inspiration from? If the budget is insufficient, how to strike a balance with the design concept?

The EASE INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD team learned to design from the perspective of caring for the land and treating the environment well

Sun Moon Tea Shop and private houses entrustment.

Conceptual Design. This design phase is the most free and frameless.

In the future, in addition to interior design, I hope to expand to furniture design.

Teamwork.

At present, a 50-year-old house is being transformed into a compound space for art, culture and folk customs. The original building structure was damaged in many places, how to repair it is the focus of this case planning.
