About Kairi Murakami Brand Identity Redesign

Kairi Murakami is a brand identity redesign created for a hotel on Iki Island in Nagasaki, Japan. The symbol is based on the kanji Ichi, whose shape is a single horizontal line, and which appears in the hotel name. The line also recalls the view over Yunomoto Bay, the first scenery that guests see on arrival. The logo is composed of straight lines and circles, expressing a powerful and memorable landscape. The colors use gradations that recall the evening sunset. The identity was applied to hall signs, business cards and letterhead, presenting the hotel as a second home.

Unique Properties
From the perspective of a special place that has not changed since Iki Island was once called "Ikikoku", I designed the kanji "Ichi (The shape is a horizontal line)" used in the name. I expressed this scenery, which is the first thing that customers see when they visit a hotel as a symbol.
Dimensions & Packaging
Many elements such as hall signs, business cards, letterhead, etc. were created from the logo.

Production Technology
The logo is composed of straight lines and circles, expressing a powerful and memorable scenery. The colors are designed with gradations that remind us of the evening when the sunsets.
Design Challenge
The main creative challenge in the brand design was to adapt the symbol of the hotel as a symbol that reminds us of our second home.
Research
A simple survey was developed using a quantitative and qualitative mix with its employees and collaborators to determine company values, communication, and tastes. From this research was developed the brand story.
Inspiration
I actually stayed and experienced the splendor of the place called Iki using my own eyes, nose, mouth, and all five senses.
Here, both customers who have come once and those who have come for the first time can experience the finest Iki cuisine and hot springs that flow directly from the source, but this scenery overlooking Yunomoto Bay is the biggest welcome to us. It was the hospitality and symbolized the second home.
Project Duration
Started in July 2019 and ended in March 2020 in Nagasaki, Japan.
Operation Flow
The main concept of the brand is to design a landscape that would be our second home for the customers.
