关于 Interpreting Discomfort 油画系列

《解读不适》是一组探讨个人空间与社会压力的油画系列。作品以手与眼为主体,通过精心设定的场景,再现日常生活中令人不安的瞬间。关怀的举动能够拉近人与人的距离,但过度的关注同样会带来不适。该系列融合了两种绘画技法:间接画法先以黑白构建底层,再罩染色彩;直接画法则将调和好的颜色直接施于画面。作品以油彩绘于亚麻画布与木板之上,于画廊中展出,旨在成为对话的起点。

独特属性: Many times “caring” actions will bring people closer together, but it can also make people uncomfortable with too much attention. In this series of works, she discuss how much attention is too much? How is this feeling of discomfort formed? For the attention given by others, we all want to classify it as concern, but too much attention may become a kind of pressure. She use this series of works to discuss with the viewer the comfortable distance of interaction between people.

生产技术: She examined the difference between indirect painting and direct painting, and used both of them in the picture. The indirect painting methods belongs to the technique of classic realistic oil painting, which is completed in black and white and then glaze color on top. Direct painting is the method of contemporary painting, which directly superimposes the adjusted color on the canvas.
Materials used: Oil paint, Wood Panel, Canvas
设计挑战: Ideation and the atmosphere is the hardest part of this project. In the presentation of the picture, the shape of the hands must be placed harmoniously in the picture without losing the beauty.
研究: The first thing is to study how to create an uncomfortable atmosphere. Eyes and hands are good parts for expressing emotions. The unnatural feeling of combining these two makes the picture more attractive and intriguing.
灵感: The images she make for this project are staged recreations of her own experience, and she believe that it is also the experience of many other people. This series deals with issues of discomfort and stress in everyday life. We all care about how others view us, this has become the same as our invisible living standards.
项目周期: The project began in San Francisco in 2020. Participated in Contemporary Venice 2021, Italy and Small Works 2021, New York.
