About Z Line House Private Residential
Z Line House is a private house located in Semarang, Indonesia. The design uses a parametric system to shape both the geometry and the structure. A series of calculated, sculptural interventions defines the facade, while the interior spaces are planned for fluid transitions in both horizontal and vertical directions. The geometry is optimized to control water flow during the heavy rainfall of the tropical climate. A detailed solar study guided the eastern and western facades, and the openings follow view axes, occupant height and the even distribution of natural light.
Drawing upon the lineage of deconstructivist architectural thought and the geometric experimentation that has characterized progressive residential design since the late twentieth century, Revano Satria's Z Line House Private Residential emerges as a compelling meditation on the expressive potential of the folded plane and the dynamic cantilever. The work demonstrates exceptional command of volumetric composition, orchestrating multiple angular masses into a coherent yet dramatically animated whole that appears to defy gravitational convention through its boldly projecting upper element. The chromatic strategy proves equally sophisticated, restricting the material palette to pristine white surfaces that maximize the sculptural reading of the complex geometry while allowing the changing qualities of natural light to articulate form through shadow and reflection. The integration of landscape and architecture merits particular attention, as the terraced configuration responds sensitively to the hillside topography while the infinity-edge pool creates a horizontal datum that mediates between the dynamic angularity above and the organic terrain below. The illumination captured at twilight reveals the designer's understanding of architecture as temporal experience, with warm interior light transforming the residence into a beacon while the fading daylight washes exterior surfaces in subtle gradations of blue and violet. Technical achievement manifests in the precise execution of acute angles and sharp edges, requiring considerable structural resolution to achieve the apparent weightlessness of the cantilevered volumes. Thematically, the work invites contemplation of shelter as both protective enclosure and expressive gesture, the private dwelling elevated to the status of sculptural landmark. How might the experience of ascending that dramatically illuminated stair each evening transform one's understanding of the threshold between public world and private sanctuary?

- Unique Properties
- The geometric exploration of the home's morphology aimed to maximize the existing site's potential, a series of calculated geometric and sculpture like interventions on the facade exploits the tension between conflicting elements. In contracts to the internal areas, which are designed to have greater fluidity in transition between the spaces in both the horizontal as well as the vertical

- Production Technology
- One significant features that defines the design of the project is the application of a parametric based system for the geometry and the structure. The geometry is optimised to control the water flow from the heavy rainfall in tropical climate. The approach was driven through a detailed solar analysis on the structure, with great attentiveness given to the eastern and western facades. The distribution of the facade's openings were heavily contingent on view axes, occupant height, and the uniform distribution of natural light. Z Line House is realized after a long study and construction phases that took more than 5 years to complete.
- Design Challenge
- The client's requirements and requisite were very specific and detailed, the primary difficulty was to address the client's request to live in a home that is visually stunning and unique, yet simultaneously maintain the conventional cultural requirements local home. The other challenge arose from the complicated yet very specific flow of activities required within the entire project; where the house serves as a base for the client's profession without hindering in the slightest the day to day residential activities of the home's occupants.
- Project Duration
- The project started in October 2014 and finished in October 2019 Semarang, Indonesia.
- Operation Flow
- The project is one single architecture residence for a client who needs a house that structurally challenging, visually stunning while maintaining a highly efficient working machine as a house. The final result according to the client is a very pleasant house where they are proud to have because it shows who they really are and have a highly effective flow of activity program
- Research
- The Z Line house is one of the residential units in Indonesia to address the challenge in construction and design. The Z Line house takes a completely Avant The house addresses issue at a local scale. One of the first residential units to address the challenge in construction and design. The interplay between function, form, light, environmental performance, social response and local assimilation has transformed what is usually considered to be a mundane residential dwelling, to one that has pushed the boundaries of construction and design evolving into an architectural landmark that has become unique to the fabric of the city.
- Inspiration
- An idea is highly contagious; plant the smallest seed of one and it can grow and multiply into reality. We always been fascinated with the idea of combining the purest and most elementary architectural knowledge with an unorthodox approach to design. The idea of exploring the transition between these two realms excites us tremendously. The house was designed with this particular mindset; A single and specific design approach that unites various psychological elements allowing us to dream of
