About Xiong Mao Wild Shell Outdoor Jacket

Xiong Mao Wild Shell is an outdoor jacket designed for hiking and trail running. The jacket is made entirely from biobased materials. Its three fabric layers use a single material, so the jacket can be recycled without separating the layers. A microporous membrane and Dyneema fibers add wear resistance and breathability. Ultrasonic seam taping improves water resistance. Ergonomic modeling and seamless splicing keep the weight at 248 grams. The jacket folds into a sling bag for easy carrying.

Within the contemporary discourse surrounding technical outdoor apparel, Guangzhou Xiongmao Outdoor Products's Xiong Mao Wild Shell Outdoor Jacket emerges as a compelling synthesis of functional engineering and aesthetic consideration, representing the evolution of outdoor gear from purely utilitarian objects to designed artifacts worthy of formal analysis. The selection of a vivid chartreuse colorway positions this garment within traditions of high-visibility mountain wear while simultaneously engaging contemporary fashion sensibilities that embrace bold, nature-inspired chromatic statements. Technical accomplishment reveals itself through careful examination of construction details: the articulated seaming follows natural body movement patterns, sealed seams suggest waterproof integrity, and the layered hood system indicates thoughtful protection engineering. The designer appears to have negotiated the perennial tension between function and form with particular sensitivity, creating a garment whose visual appeal emerges from rather than despite its technical requirements. The interplay between the brighter outer shell and softer interior lining creates depth perception when the jacket opens, transforming a simple functional feature into an aesthetic gesture. Multiple pocket placements demonstrate ergonomic intelligence, positioned for accessibility whether arms are raised, lowered, or engaged with equipment. The garment's presentation against negative space invites contemplation of silhouette and proportion, revealing how technical constraints such as articulated sleeves and volumetric hoods have been resolved into coherent visual form. This jacket participates in broader design conversations about sustainability, performance, and the aesthetic dignity of functional objects, suggesting that contemporary outdoor equipment increasingly operates within frameworks previously reserved for fashion design discourse. How might the experience of wilderness engagement transform when mediated through garments that honor both technical necessity and visual pleasure?

Production Technology
The jacket embodies environmental responsibility by fully using biobased materials, combined with advanced microporous membrane technology and robust Dyneema fibers to enhance wear resistance, breathability, and comfort. The SoundMax ultrasonic seam taping technology and the precisely controlled adhesive overflow process work in harmony, using vibrations at high frequencies for flawless bonds between tapes and fabrics. This boosts not only water resistance but also visual appeal and quality.
Design Challenge
Traditional composite fabrics are often made by laminating different materials, requiring complex separation during recycling. This leads to high costs, low efficiency, and significant environmental harm. To solve these problems, the jacket combines three layers of the fabric made from a single material. This simplifies recycling, allowing it to enter the recycling loop directly without separation. The use of fully biobased materials also reflects the commitment of the brand to sustainability.
Project Duration
The design and development of this jacket began in Guanghzou, in June 2024.
Operation Flow
By harnessing ergonomic data modeling and 3D seamless splicing technology, the jacket weighs only 248g, lighter than 4 SIS Isotonic Energy Gels. The combination of lightweight fabrics and seamless cutting ensures optimal comfort and unrestricted movement.
With an innovative integrated storage design, the jacket can fold into a sling bag, eliminating the burden of carrying bulky outdoor gear and allowing the wearer to transition seamlessly between the rhythm of city life and the call of the wild.
Research
As global environmental awareness rises, the outdoor sports industry is navigating a shift from high performance to sustainability. However, traditional outdoor apparel often use petrochemical based materials, which excel in functionality but come at a heavy environmental cost during production and disposal. Meanwhile, outdoor enthusiasts are increasingly demanding lightweight and multifunctional gear, especially for hiking and trail running, where portability and comfort are essential.
Inspiration
Drawing inspiration from nature, the jacket design aims to harmonize environmental protection with minimalist charm. Rooted in the Back to Basics philosophy, it combines simple yet refined design with sustainable materials, helping the wearer feel closer to nature and embrace the true spirit of adventure. The color palette also echoes this philosophy: vibrant fluorescent green reflects the vitality of the natural world, while soft gray adds a touch of understated elegance and purity.
