About Whirlpool Lapis Grande Glass Door Refrigerator
Whirlpool Lapis Grande is a glass door refrigerator designed for modern homes. The front panel is finished with a marble pattern and gold accents, moving away from the conventional steel appearance of most refrigerators. The artwork is printed directly onto glass, and calibrated colour trials were used to correct the natural green tint of the glass. The glass surface is easy to clean and gives a seamless look. The refrigerator offers ten convertible modes and allows the freezer to be converted into a fridge in about ten minutes.
Positioned within the contemporary discourse of elevated domestic design, this presentation of Whirlpool India Design Studio's Glass Door Refrigerator series demonstrates how utilitarian household appliances have evolved into significant expressions of material culture and aesthetic aspiration. The tripartite arrangement invites contemplation of surface treatment as a primary design consideration, with each variant offering distinct visual and tactile experiences while maintaining formal coherence through shared proportional relationships and geometric discipline. The central unit's elaborate marbled pattern appears to reference geological formations and the venerable tradition of pietra dura, the art of inlaid stone that achieved extraordinary refinement in historical decorative arts, translating this heritage into contemporary glass fabrication technology. Gold veining traces organic pathways that suggest natural mineral deposits while simultaneously evoking the Japanese aesthetic philosophy of kintsugi, finding beauty in the integration of precious metal with darker grounds. By printing directly onto glass, they preserved the artwork's richness and depth. To overcome the glass’s natural green tint, the team conducted rigorous calibrated trials, balancing dark marble tones with warm gold accents. This meticulous color correction ensured the final production matched the intended premium visual impact.

- The primary research challenge was navigating India’s immense cultural and regional diversity. Defining a universally accepted "premium" aesthetic is highly complex when regional sensibilities and acceptance of modern finishes vary drastically. These fragmented geographical preferences had to be reconciled while also addressing the stark contrasts in taste between mass and premium buyers. The core hurdle was synthesizing diverse consumer feedback on various marble and stone patterns to find a unifying design language. The intent was to craft a distinctive, modern finish that satisfied the premium segment's desire for differentiation while achieving broad cultural resonance across the diverse Indian market.

- A detailed consumer and market research was conducted by the In-house research team across different regions of India to better understand changing lifestyles and design preferences in the refrigerator category. The research showed that many consumers, especially in the premium segment are seeking modern yet differentiated home appliances. It also highlighted clear differences between mass and premium buyers in their expectations and taste. These insights guided the development of the Jade Marble glass door refrigerator, helping the team create a design that feels modern, distinctive, and relevant to its audience.
