About Veronia Storage and Display
Veronia is a modular cabinet collection designed for storage and display in living spaces. The symmetrical arched form recalls architectural arch windows and softens the rigid lines of traditional cabinets. The frames are made of solid wood, while the back panels and shelves use recycled burl offcuts. Glass doors and integrated ambient lighting turn storage into a softly lit display area. The collection includes tall cabinets, storage cabinets, a side table, a coffee table and a mirror cabinet, all flat-packed for assembly.
Veronia Storage and Display by Ziel Home Furnishing Technology Co., Ltd situates itself within the ongoing dialogue between historical furniture typologies and contemporary material practice, demonstrating particular affinity with transitional design approaches that honor cabinetry heritage while asserting distinctly modern spatial and functional sensibilities. The arched upper profile evokes the ecclesiastical and institutional furniture traditions of Romanesque and Gothic display cases, vitrine cabinets that once housed sacred relics or scholarly treasures, yet the clean geometries, restrained ornamentation, and integrated lighting technology clearly position this work within twenty-first-century design thinking where historical reference functions as conceptual anchor rather than stylistic imitation. The compositional achievement rests substantially in the successful integration of contrasting material languages: the deeply saturated charcoal exterior framework provides sculptural mass and visual weight, establishing the cabinet as architectural presence rather than mere utilitarian object, while the illuminated burl wood interior creates warm invitation and reveals the piece's functional purpose as both repository and display mechanism. This inside-outside material dialogue, the play between concealing opacity and revealing transparency, demonstrates sophisticated understanding of furniture as narrative device, the cabinet simultaneously protecting and presenting its contents, creating theatre of domestic objects through controlled illumination and framed viewing. The technical execution evidences considerable craft sensitivity, particularly in the precision joinery visible where vertical stiles meet horizontal rails, in the sympathetic proportional relationships between arched crown, glazed midsection, and solid base, and in the integration of invisible LED strips that bathe interior shelving in flattering warm light without visible source intrusion. The golden burl veneer backing, with its organic figuring and natural color variation, provides textural richness and visual warmth that counterbalances the severity of the black exterior, preventing the piece from reading as overly austere or forbidding, instead suggesting layers of discovery and intimate revelation available to those who approach closely. Within broader furniture design discourse, this work participates in the enduring investigation of display culture, the human impulse to curate, arrange, and present meaningful objects for contemplation, an impulse connecting contemporary residential interiors to Renaissance studioli, Victorian cabinets of curiosity, and museum gallery systems. The piece invites consideration of how we construct personal narratives through object arrangement, how furniture can frame and elevate everyday possessions into subjects worthy of focused attention, and how the boundary between functional storage and aesthetic presentation remains productively blurred in thoughtfully conceived furnishing design. What stories might the objects within such a vessel tell, and how does the cabinet itself, through its material choices and formal language, shape the narrative possibilities of its contents?

- Production Technology
- The cabinet frame is crafted from solid wood, emphasizing timeless contours and simplicity. The back panel and shelves utilize recycled burl offcuts, supporting sustainability. Glass doors are combined with wood for visual balance, while integrated ambient lighting accentuates the unique burl textures. The spliced offcuts create natural color rhythms, and the flowing patterns on the panels-reminiscent of landscapes or nebulae-require no additional ornamentation, bringing artistic expression to minimalist spaces.
- Design Challenge
- The primary challenge was to abstract the arc contours and seamlessly fuse burl wood textures with integrated ambient illumination, achieving a balance between the historic grandeur of Roman arches and contemporary minimalism. A coordinated "texture-light-color temperature" model was developed to harmonize these elements. Digital scanning and flexible molds were utilized to ensure precision in material splicing. Additionally, a modular design approach with multi-protocol integration was adopted to achieve compatibility with various smart home systems.
- Project Duration
- The project commenced in Shenzhen in December 2024 and was completed in Shenzhen in June 2025.
- Operation Flow
- The innovation of this collection lies in elevating arched cabinets from simple storage furniture to spatial focal points and multifunctional hubs. Through symmetrical aesthetics, the combination of diverse materials, and integrated functions, these cabinets provide order, warmth, and practical usability. They also serve as engaging backdrops for conversations, with curated displays and ambient lighting that blend functionality with emotional resonance, enhancing both the atmosphere and user interaction within the space.
- Research
- Inspired by Roman arches, this project reinterprets classic architectural symbols through innovative use of natural materials and the integration of smart technologies. By combining spliced burl wood with integrated ambient illumination, the design establishes a comprehensive system that bridges design and production, overcoming material limitations and translating architectural concepts into functional elements. The project explores possibilities for customization and user interaction, presenting an innovative model for home design that harmoniously blends history, nature, and intelligence.
- Inspiration
- Drawing inspiration from architectural aesthetics, the Arc Haven Series integrates classic arch elements to break the rigidity of traditional cabinets and echo the form of architectural arch windows. Designed for balanced storage and display through glass doors, layered cabinets, and warm lighting, it provides adaptable CMF solutions for diverse cultural styles.
