About The Bridge House Private Residential

The Bridge House is a private residence built on a steep slope facing a valley. Interconnected grid bridges link the house to different parts of the site, so no clear boundary is set between the building and nature. The design is inspired by the linear terraces of local architecture. The building is raised above the ground and given a porous form to address the high humidity of the area. The facade has operable sliding panels with louvers that control light and heat and also provide privacy. Reclaimed ceramic tiles, granite and glass are used in the interior.

Within the contemporary discourse surrounding responsive residential design, The Bridge House Private Residential by Soheil Afshar Mohammadian represents a compelling meditation on the dialogue between architectural intervention and natural topography, demonstrating how thoughtful structural innovation can enable dwelling that simultaneously respects and celebrates its environmental context. The work engages with established traditions of hillside architecture that trace from early modernist experiments with cantilever and piloti to contemporary explorations of minimal ground disturbance and elevated living platforms, yet brings fresh interpretation through its distinctive combination of faceted crystalline volumes and warm timber-clad elements unified by an expressive steel structural system. The technical achievement evident in the cantilevered white pavilion speaks to sophisticated engineering resolution, where bold formal gesture emerges from rigorous structural logic, the apparent weightlessness of the floating volume creating a productive tension with the visible muscularity of its supporting framework. The chromatic orchestration demonstrates particular sensitivity, establishing a material palette where cool whites and dark steels provide contemporary architectural identity while warm timber louvers and glazed apertures revealing illuminated interiors suggest domesticity, comfort, and human presence within the sculptural envelope. The pedestrian bridge extending into the landscape functions both programmatically as circulation and symbolically as gesture of reaching toward horizon and sky, inviting inhabitants to traverse between sheltered interior and open prospect. Perhaps most remarkably, the siting strategy achieves a form of architectural humility despite the boldness of formal expression, elevating the structure above the hillside to preserve the continuity of the landscape flowing beneath while positioning living spaces to maximize engagement with the atmospheric drama of sky, cloud, and distant vista. Viewers might contemplate how this dwelling proposes a particular relationship between human habitation and natural systems, one of respectful coexistence rather than domination, suggesting that contemporary residential design can achieve formal ambition while maintaining ecological sensitivity.

Unique Properties
The project is located on a steep slope facing the valley, which connects the project to different parts of the site by interconnected grid bridges so that no clear boundary can be set for the beginning and end of the building and nature. Along the bridges, you can touch the leaves of the trees and see the views and different dimensions of the project.
Dimensions & Packaging
site area 1630 sq.m., building area 342.42 sq.m

Production Technology
In this project, in order to deal with the high humidity of the area, apart from the separation of the building from the ground and the porous form of the building, goat fibers and hair and micro-silica materials have been used. In the decoration section, we look for some materials that have been abandoned by the factory, such as ceramic tiles, granite, and glass. The facade has operable sliding panels with louvers to control light and heat gains but also to provide privacy from close proximity neighborhood.
Design Challenge
Challenges we faced in this design include land slope, humidity, environmental regulations, and preservation of trees on site.
Project Duration
The project started in April 2020 and finished in June 2020. it is located in Mazandaran, Province of Iran.
Operation Flow
The space in this project is designed to be very transparent and the amount of light can be controlled with moving louvers so that this house can offer a different view by changing the hours and seasons so that architecture and nature can talk to each other. The effect of the initial concept on circulation was very effective. When the user is on the bridges, he can experience the whole project from different angles. The project consists of a vertical and horizontal access network.
Research
To reduce energy consumption, the following has been applied 1. right orientation, cross ventilation 2. High-performance insulation materials, 3. Energy glass (low e) 4. External panels blocking direct solar load, 5. Led lighting, 6. Automation.
Inspiration
When the landscape becomes an inspiration, there are no boundaries between inside and outside. This design is a bridge between architecture and nature. A pure design approach to touching nature without interfering with it, so that the house is largely in tune with its topography and at the same time detached from it. The design is inspired by the linear terraces of local architecture (Gholamgardesh).
