About Smart Board Eco Board

Smart boards, made from recycled materials, help kids to improve their knowledge, motor skills and experience. The motives on the board are created by using different materials and textures to stimulate development of sensors. They have the ability to find and correct errors, offer experiences in an easy and fun way. Their creation increased awareness of pollution and healthy environment amongst kids and their creators.

Unique Properties
The project was created by collecting packaging, creating individual recycling packaging materials, monitoring children's play activities created with materials and fitting separated materials in 3 parts of the eco table .With this project we have shown how it can be easily created a stimulating environment for children and how packaging can be reused in a creative way.
Dimensions & Packaging
board dimensions: 53cm x 41.5 cm x 3 cm ,
packaging dimension 55cm x 45cm x 13cm

Production Technology
The product is handmade by recycled different kinds of packaging. The base of the board is made of cardboard coated with a protective transparent foil. The motifs of the boards are made of: leather, wood, different kind of fabric, iron, plastic caps from food packaging, zippers, pebbles, wool, sandpaper, plastic buttons, laces.
Design Challenge
The most difficult part of the activity was to fit the most attractive parts into the meaningful themes interesting to children. Choosing the parts that will retain the longest attention of most children of all ages. The most attractive parts which were used by children aged 2-12 years, are embedded in the content of the boards
Project Duration
The project was initiated in 2012 in preschool "our child" Sabac.
Results are presented on:
17th Expert Meeting of Nurses of Serbia - Kladovo, 2014.
3 rd International expert conference - Cetinje, Montenegro 2014.
6 th Festival of science - Novi Sad, 2014
XX autumn expert meetings educator Tara,2014.
Operation Flow
The eco board represent a didactic tool that in a fun and easy way help children to acquire knowledge, skills, to become acquainted with ecological terminology.Motives on the boards are made of different materials and textures which stimulate sensory development. This design attracts and motivates children with its structure and motifs including error control, facilitating the acquisition of knowledge and experience in an easy and fun .
Research
The aim of the study was to examine the opinions of parents and educational staff on this design, handmade recycling of packaging, packaging recycling options in this way as well as the importance of using the board in practice. Anonymous questionnaire by the educational staff and parents came to the positive results and the need for promoting this idea. The monitoring of the quality of children's activities with recycled materials was also performed.
Inspiration
Observing children playing with hand-made recycled materials, we had the idea to create this design. The creation of such design inspired us by a wide variety of packaging that can be recycled, which has positive effects on environmental protection.

Design Interview about Smart Board Eco Board

Main idea and inspiration was brought by the question how to use different materials which we'll help kids in learning.

Main focus was on creating an interesting and fun toy for kids to play with and learn about recycling and poluttion of the environment.

Creating other smart boards with different motives.

One year.

We decided on this particular concept because working with kids gave us an inside view on their thoughts and their needs that include learning.

Another companies don't use our product and we, indeed, do plan on selling rights, or partial rights to other companies.

Following worldwide trends, we concluded how different materials and textures have an positive effect on kids.

We were inspired by the Montessori's materials.

Kids from 2 to 12 years of age (kindergarten, pre-school kids, middle school kids, also disabled kids)

Materials which are used for the design, wide range of possibilities and devolpment of motor skills.

Concept of the board requires its name. It's a smart board because it demands a lot of thinking while using it.

We used rulers, sccisors, needls, scalpel, glue, etc.

The most unique thing is actually how we got an functional and high-quality product by using different recycled materials.

The designers of this project are colleagues from work.

While making this design, we didn't want technology to play a big role in the product. In that way, withouth technology, smartboards recuqier kid's full attention and teach them some basic things about life that technological devices can't.

Our designe is influenced by theoretical researches, but also by practial usage of materials that the product is consisted of.

It was challenging to make our product interesting enough for kids and how to corporate different materials.

Encouraged by level of interest in kids and by positive reactions of parents and collegues.

We learned different techniques which helped us create the design and how to get an actual project from just an idea.

No, thank you.

Grand Interview about Smart Board Eco Board

First, I had individual materials that the children used for playing and learning, and then I combined them into a meaningful whole.Playing and fitting parts of the packaging, children develop fine motor skills, mathematical thinking, knowledge of the environment.

I am a Montessori educator on sensory development and materials, I know a lot from practice, I have been working in preschool for 23 years and I have experience.Sensory development that is stimulated by the sense of touch develops skills in children, and that is why it is important that children have experience with different materials in the early time.

Creating a didactic toy for children's development from packaging.Which packaging is safe, appropriate, where to find resources.

I believe that such boards should be made with both children and parents with different designs, which will develop awareness of sustainable development.

Earlier types were with less activity and simpler, the design was the same, these boards also now have their own development and have been improved

Thanks to the knowledge of Montessori pedagogy, I was able to ensure error control, it makes the game high-quality and the acquisition of knowledge in a fun way

Thanks to the experience from the conferences, I created seminars that are accredited for making toys from packaging called Help me to do it myself

The dimensions are determined according to the sizes of the design details so that everything fits and there is enough room for manipulation.Younger children will develop fine motor skills, practical skills, older children will learn math concepts and early literacy development.

The most important thing is to see how the packaging can be made into an object that has a purpose and that it is used in this case as a didactic toy.

The most important thing is to test the product, whether it "works", whether people like it, what the users think about it, whether they would make it or use it.
