About Silver Siren Speaker
Silver Siren is a handmade speaker project inspired by Siren the mythology. Sirens were dangerous creatures who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and singing voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. They were sometimes depicted as beautiful women, whose bodies, not only their voices, are seductive. Silver Siren was designed to depict the imagery of the siren and the ocean.

- Unique Properties
- Sirens were dangerous creatures who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and singing voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. They were sometimes depicted as beautiful women, whose bodies, not only their voices, are seductive. Enchanting but dangerous, isn’t Siren excellent imagery of a beautiful, mysterious speaker with a fluid, organic form? I tried to capture Sirens' moment leaning on the rock, singing and waiting for sailors as well as the color and the movement of ocean waves.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- Width 266 mm x Depth 268 mm x Height 728 mm

- consumer electronics, industrial design, product design, speaker, audio
- Production Technology
- I designed the form and the speaker/amplifier enclosures in Rhinoceros. Then laser cut MDF to make a section model. Glue pieces together and sand it to smooth. Then painted primer/automotive paints/clearcoat and assembled all the parts.
- Design Challenge
- During the development/realization phase, the challenge is how to make the organic form of the speaker and the layout of the internal electronics. I chose to make a section model, which is layers of MDF board, to lower the cost, and also, that would be an easy way to make the inner structure. For the internal electronics, I made a slide to easily take all the parts out of the main body if some components are broken.
- Project Duration
- The project started in Jan 2019 in Los Angeles and finished in August 2019.
- Operation Flow
- There is a control penal on the side of the speaker. You could connect to your audio devices by Bluetooth or AUX cable.
- Research
- I looked into different art pieces and literature about the siren to feel and analyze the imageries of sirens. Then visualized them by a couple of sketches.
- Inspiration
- My inspiration is the Siren, which is the mythological creature in the sea. In Greek mythology, Sirens were dangerous creatures who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and singing voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. They were sometimes depicted as beautiful women, whose bodies, not only their voices, are seductive. Enchanting but dangerous, isn’t Siren excellent imagery of a beautiful, mysterious speaker with a fluid, organic form? I tried to capture Sirens' moment leaning on the rock, singing and waiting for sailors—also the color and the movement of ocean waves.

Design Interview about Silver Siren Speaker
“Silver Siren” is a handmade speaker project inspired by Sirens. In Greek mythology, Sirens, these mythical beings were famed for their mesmerizing music and voices, which they used to entice sailors into shipwrecks upon the treacherous shores of their islands. In myth, Sirens were portrayed as hybrids of women and birds, assuming various forms. Often, they were imagined as breathtakingly beautiful women, seductive not only through their voices but through their very forms. This project seeks to encapsulate the allure and danger of these mythical figures, translating their enchanting legacy into a modern auditory experience.
I was focusing on achieving a perfect surface. So it took me a lot of time to get it right.
I'm planning to make it into a collection that shares the same concept.
It took me a few days to design and 3d modeling it. Then took me a few weeks to make the physical model.
It was not a commission work and I designed it for myself. I was trying to design a different speaker model than the products on the market.
Not yet. Currently I'm using it to participate some design exhibitions. I'm planning to make it into a more consumer-friendly model so I can make profit from it.
My desire of beautiful forms.
I got a few inspiration and references from B&W speakers.
People who enjoy music and good design.
An organic form that is not often on speaker design.

I think it is the form that makes my design unique.
I worked on it by myself.
I used 3D programs to make a visualization so I could have a better understanding of the whole shape.
Not date or analytical research. The only research I did was the forms of speakers on the market.
It was hard to have a perfect smooth surface.
A design Award has a good reputation and I want more people to know about my design.
I improved my sanding and painting skills. Also my patient was getting better.
I like to design things differently!
