The design of this dental unit is different from other products on the market because it develops by taking better account of the needs of the end user: the child.

Design Challenge
The challenge has been to create my own idea I had of this product failing to respect the technological constraints that are many.
To develop the idea of a meeting that took greater account of the needs of the end user is very important to know in depth the human relationship that is created between patient and doctor.
A delicate relationship that is adjusted by the trust acquired over time.
Project Duration
This project is a concept. It is started in february 2009 in Genova and finished in june 2009.
Operation Flow
The use of the meeting must be guided by the dentist who first knows the perfect operation for the job that going to carry.
In this case, however, the interaction between the patient and the dental unit is very evident by the change that is was made to each element which constitutes this product.
The video is a first object that helps to distract the patient in a pleasant especially if it is a child, about his size and the position in which it was placed; the dentist console that is the source of pain for the patient has been designed with a harmonious shape and totally resealable itself not to create anxiety that occurs with the immediate view of the various medical instruments; operating light, as well as performing its usual function , through the form which is reminiscent of a shooting star creates light effects that simulate a starry sky, a source of tranquility and serenity; even the mirror and the basin for rinsing were studied in order to interact in a playful manner with the patient who is the only user; the ergonomic chair is the central element of the dental unit around which they relate all the other components together.
Research
The first phase of the research was the historical one (the first chair designed for utilizatin of the dental field made its first appearance in 1832) to understand the evolution of form and technique that this object has had over time.
Another crucial phase of research was carried out with the technicians who are responsible for maintenance of this product in order to avoid new elements not suitable for the proper functioning of the unit.
The sales representatives have also helped me to understand the current aesthetic trends that should not be underestimated for the success of the sale of this product, which, being very expensive for the dentist must satisfy this aspect.
Inspiration
Almost all people have fear in a visit to the dentist perhaps negative experiences endured in the past, the more you need to consider the fear that the children can try that are preparing to live the first few visits.
With this in mind the idea of designing a dental unit for children with elements capable of capturing their attention thus making him forget the fear and anxiety due to the visit.

Design Interview about Roi Dental chair for children

It's to capture the attention of the end user, child or adult who has been to make him forget the fear and anxiety of the dental visit.

Create a dental unit composed of those elements essential for the work of the dentist but revisited in such a way to be able to distract the patient.

Having the ability to materially realize my project.

About two months.

The idea was born because I am in direct contact with the dental field by my husband who is a dentist.

If it were possible to sell or lease the production rights.

Besides the fact that I frequent this sector also my personal experience from the patient had in the past.

I was not inspired by any other project or designer of my knowledge.

The dentist who intends to have a special regard for his patients who are children or not, but also to have a product that facilitates the work in terms of technology and image.

The singularity of the elements that compose it are: the large video site on the armchair to read the x-rays and to see video to the patients; the shell that encloses the various handpieces thus protecting it from dirt; the operating lamp totally different from those in the trade who creates special light effects when used in a dimly lit room; the mirror and the basin for rinsing also modified so as to facilitate the patient to live a more serene experience.

It's the set of initial word of : Riunito Odontoiatrico Italiano

The sketch manual first and then various 3D modeling programs.

It's a product made from many products, each different and unique.

I had to consult with dentists and technicians.
The first to learn about what kind of human relationship you create with patients and also their practical needs; the latter to understand the mechanisms that allow electrical and plumbing exact unit operation.

It's a fundamental role which contributes to the quality of the work of the dentist and influence the design of the various elements.

I have not been influenced by the research carried out but I ran a search and then a historic market research to have a greater knowledge of the characteristics of the products they are marketing.

Realizing my own idea that I had about this product failing to respect the technological constraints that are many.

To get feedback from experts in the field who can help me to improve my project and understand if it can be brought on the market.

I learned that to design an dental unit must come into play various technical and professional skills.
To improve my project I tried to study the products already on the market talking with dentists, technicians and sales representatives.
