About Prorig Mobile Rig
Prorig is a mobile rig for smartphone photography and filmmaking. The rig is made from recycled aluminium with GRS certified TPU bumpers. A slim expansion frame with an open back keeps magnetic accessory attachment, ports and controls accessible. A swappable insert clicks in to hold a wide range of phone models, so upgrading a phone requires changing only the insert. Quick release handles attach at any corner for fast changes between vertical and horizontal shooting. Standard mount points and a lens mount allow tool free accessories.
The Prorig Mobile Rig represents a compelling intersection of industrial design refinement and the democratization of professional imaging capabilities, positioning itself within the contemporary creative technology landscape where traditional barriers between amateur and professional content creation continue to dissolve. This carefully engineered dual-grip stabilization system demonstrates thoughtful attention to ergonomic principles and material selection, its aerospace-grade aluminum construction suggesting durability and professional-grade robustness while maintaining the portability essential to mobile workflow integration. The compositional achievement of the design manifests in its precise bilateral symmetry, a formal strategy that communicates balance, stability, and ergonomic rationality—the two cylindrical grip modules establishing intuitive two-handed operation while their knurled surface texturing promises secure tactile engagement even under demanding production conditions. The chromatic restraint evidenced in the matte gray finish speaks to contemporary premium product aesthetics where color recedes in favor of material honesty and technical character, the cool neutral palette aligning with professional tool vocabulary while avoiding the gestural expressiveness that might date the design or limit its contextual versatility. Technical merit resides not merely in the visual presentation but in the evident design intelligence: the protective smartphone case integrates seamlessly with the grip architecture, the camera module cutout precisely accommodating contemporary multi-lens mobile imaging systems, and the overall proportional relationship between protective frame and grip extensions suggests careful calibration of handling balance and moment of inertia. The device appears to explore questions central to contemporary creative practice: how might professional production values become accessible to broader creative communities, what formal language appropriately signals capability without intimidation, and through what material and ergonomic choices can a tool communicate both seriousness of purpose and approachable usability. The knurled grip surfaces, their diagonal linear patterns catching light in rhythmic progressions, reference established industrial design vocabularies drawn from precision instruments and professional equipment, creating visual and tactile continuity with broader tool traditions while serving fundamentally practical traction functions. One might observe how the design negotiates the tension between specialized function and everyday portability, its modular character suggested by visible mounting points and expansion possibilities intimating adaptability to diverse shooting scenarios and creative workflows. The transparent protective case component introduces material dialogue, its glassy clarity contrasting with the matte opacity of the aluminum chassis, creating visual interest through material juxtaposition while fulfilling the practical mandate of device visibility and access. The overall formal presence suggests confidence without ostentation, technical competence without complexity, inviting consideration of how contemporary design increasingly seeks to empower creative expression through tools that honor both functional demands and aesthetic sensibilities, expanding possibilities for visual storytelling across contexts from casual documentation to considered cinematographic exploration.

- Production Technology
- Built from recycled aluminum with GRS-certified TPU bumpers. The slim expansion frame uses an open-back design to preserve MagSafe and keep ports/controls accessible. A simple click-in fit secures a wide range of phone sizes and models for fast setup and stable handheld shooting. Standard mount points and a dedicated lens mount are integrated into the frame for tool-free, modular add-ons without bulk.
- Design Challenge
- The hardest challenge was creating a clean, minimalist rig without limiting how people shoot or where accessories go. The handle connection had to be strong but non-intrusive, attach to any corner for fast vertical/horizontal swaps, and still leave space for lights, mics, lenses, and cables/SSDs. At the same time, the frame had to stay slim, MagSafe-clear, and universal across phone models. We solved it through rapid prototypes and a radical redesign to a cleaner, more capable version.

A swappable insert with a simple click-in fit secures the phone and enables forward compatibility—upgrade by changing only the insert to extend product life. Standard mount points and a dedicated lens mount are integrated for tool-free modular add-ons without bulk, keeping the rig clean, balanced, and fast to configure.
- Research
- We developed ProRig through iterative prototyping and usability testing to reach the most minimalist, universal rig that still rigs up fast, preserves MagSafe, keeps the phone bottom clear for cables/SSDs, and supports both vertical and horizontal shooting. We worked with a focus group to uncover real pain points, then made a radical design shift and validated it through shooting trials and accessory checks with creators and our in-house team. The result is a cleaner workflow with freer angles and less clutter.
- Inspiration
- Phones are sleek, minimal, and capable– rigging should be too. ProRig evolves film cages into a cleaner, phone-first system: a universal, upgrade-proof rig that mounts accessories, preserves MagSafe, and rigs up fast without bulk. Traditional cages lock creators into one orientation and restrict angles. ProRig’s corner quick-release handles attach in any corner, so you can switch vertical/horizontal fast, tilt into harder angles, while keeping the phone bottom clear for cables and SSDs.
